I hope that you do not have another "rectification contest" as you did with J. Wigand's chart. I "entered" this with some trepidation and discovered that it did make those of us who were way off and completely wrong look stupid (despite the disclaimer about this not being about being right or wrong). Beginning astrologers who were perfectly able to interpret charts intuitively and accurately may have been discouraged by this kind of gimmicky nonsense.

I would also suggest that you compile your over-priced books with much more biographical and astrological accuracy (not to mention doing a spell check before publication).

I am surprised at how few people used the tried and true rectification techniques taught by Ken Negus and espoused within the NCGR education program. Those who followed these most closely came closest to the correct birth time/angles, in my observation.

It has been my experience that our impressions of what is right via appearance or emplacement of planets by houses doesn't work. This has been shown to be the case in this exercise, I think.

The Ken Negus/NCGR technique uses the solar arc and secondary progressed moon plus the slow-moving transits to get a general focus (within 1-2 hours). then fast moving bodies/points and hypothetical angles to fine tune. It works! It doesn't matter what system you use (tropical, sidereal) as long as you understand how your system works, imho. I have used this technique for years and find it the best, although one can never guarantee finding the actual birth time, only a working chart.

Of course, I could not participate in this challenge, since I knew the birth time. :)

This has been an eye-opening experience. My thanks to all who participated. It helps us all to improve the quality of astrology.

Since it is Wigand's chart we are studying, perhaps a little stubbornness is appropriate. Having studied the chart, I find that I am not convinced of the accuracy of the 2:30 am time. I wonder whether there may have been some confusion about Standard Time and War Time, so that the 2:30 am time, perhaps a hospital time, was in Standard Time which would equal 3:30 am War Time. I have no other direct evidence other than my inability to reconcile the 2:30 chart with his experiences. In my admittedly fallible opinion, Sidereal Virgo rising does not account for his experience of two marriages and two divorces.

Feel free to disagree in an agreeable manner.

If the birth place was Chicago, we may indeed wonder as some Illinois hospitals remained on standard time even when the country was on war time; however, there has never been any question that New York was observing war time along with the rest of the nation between February 9, 1942 and September 30, 1945.

Hay un dato que considero que fue erroneo haberlo dado, ya que utilice como guia y eso confundio mi analisis. Despues de haber pasado las dos semanas de concurso, escribiste "...his mother said he was born "in the early morning before breakfast".

Before breakfast, sería 1 ó 2 horas antes que amanesca, pero no las 2:30 horas???, que es totalmente de noche!!!!Ok!!!

Creo que ese dato no fue acertado.

Ahora como es que la hora de nacimiento la da el propio Jeff y no su madre??? ó no se encuentra la hora en un Certificado de Nacimiento para mayor seguridad????

Hi,

I am surprised that guy have an ascendant Libra.

He don't look like a Libra's man.

Could be because the ruler of his ascendant (Venus) is conjunct to his Sun (Sagittarius) and change his appearance too look physically more like a Sagittarius???

Anyway, this is a mystery of astrology!

We enjoyed the Rectification Challenge, and are pleased to be one of the winners. This was not a fluke or "lucky guess", and we hope (fingers crossed) to remain on target with our methods. To further the dialogue, we will briefly comment on some of the many interesting points brought up by others.

Hillis-Dineen notes some shortcomings with the data analyzed by Jigsaw. We collected the twelve transits used by Dymock Brose from AstroDatabank text and links, and we agree that career-related events are in fact bunched in time. With more personal information on Wigand, we could all have done a better job, but incomplete data and time constraints are daily realities for astrologers. In practice, we have to go with what we have. The simple reason Jigsaw missed was that it relied solely on transits. Although it is stated that Jigsaw will look at graphs based on progressions, our items 1,2,3, and 12 are progressed angles and were rejected. As Raskovsky mentions in his first comments (not translated from Spanish like the second), and Starkman emphasizes in the debate on Israel's chart, it is advisable to actually use progressions/directions, and ours are within the tight orb that Sandstone8 desires.

As to how exact the 2:30 EWT birthtime actually is, I am willing to draw the logical conclusion from Tony Louis's implied premise. Such times are approximate, and it is almost certain that Jeffrey Wigand was born some minutes after 2:30. I rounded off to 2:40, and stated this was preliminary as more work could be done. The real-life purpose of rectifications is not to see who can get closest to a birth-certificate time, but to refine such reported times to make better interpretations(by defining houses) and forecasts(see our correct prediction on George W. Bush using progressed Ascendant and Solar Rev.).

P.S. Russell Crowe(who played Wigand in the movie "Insider") was born in Wellington, New Zealand on Apr. 7, 1964, and therefore has his Sun on Wigand's exact Descendant.

Whilst one of my favoured times 2:26 am was within 1° on the first attempt I moved it to 2:41am on my last try. The problem with micro rectification in this case was the small number of specific events. Also a problem I found was the closeness of the Most Effective Point (MEP) – which is the same degree in each sign as the Ascendant – and the M.C. which were slightly less than 2.5° apart. If we consider say the catalyst for the various events – his being fired by the tobacco company on 24th March 1993; and look at the previous Solar Return and Solar Eclipse we see Uranus and Neptune in close conjunction. The question I had to ask, is were they in opposition to the MC or on the MEP?. Both were in orb as I allow up to 5°.

With hindsight I now concentrate more on transit Mars which rules 8th house of obstructions and the Moon's Nodes which are very malefic as Rahu is disposed by malefic dispositor Sun Lord of the 12th house of loss, and Ketu which is ruled by malefic Saturn Lord of the 6th house of disputes.

The following degrees apply.

• SR Saturn 21.07

• SE Saturn 21.47

Saturn here afflicts the 11th house MEP by opposition – earnings and 7th house relationships.

• Transit Mars 22.03

Mars closely conjuncts 10th house (career) MEP and aspects natal Ascendant

• Transit Venus 22.38

Venus is opposition natal Ascendant but cannot help as it is closely afflicted by aspect from transit Rahu.

• Transit Ketu 20.55

Ketu delivers a double whammy with Mars by aspecting natal Ascendant.

We thus have a range of from 20.55° to 22.03° (ignoring Venus which is not a malefic) as the range for the Ascendant degree.

I think the genesis of an event lies in the last Solar Eclipse I would therefore consider SE Saturn as close to the MEP – which is 21.47.

Transit Mars is 22.03.

The Nodes are most potent within 1° of the MEP which allows up to 21.55° in this case. 

I would thus set a final rectified time at 21.55° which gives a birth time of 2:30:34 am.

In response to the 'final outcome' of this rectification challenge these are my thoughts. No one has proven anything, whether using converse progressions {they have to be within a degree to be useful}, transits to the midheaven {they have to be exact to qualify, when using a specific time} and moon in the 6th house {it was in the 7th}. I'm a realist also, and can see this particular challenge was in need of more than an astrologer or two, to arrive at a correct birth time. I would suggest offering 2, as opposed to 1 exact event time, in order to create a better opportunity for some to arrive at a correct birth time. I hope you do this on some upcoming new moon, energy willing.

My first take was Scorpio or Taurus because of fixity and physicality. I also favored Aries moon because of his temperament, that left Scorpio. But I didn't really turn my attention to this till the approximate time was announced. There are compelling arguments for Libra but I just can't accept that in terms of looks, temperament, Libra risings I know. I wanted (is this a technique?) Sag rising. I liked the packed first house and added fire if you don't have fixed. And also liked the ruler of the 5th in the 12th, Gemini on the 7th,the ruler of the 7th in Capricorn, the ruler of the 9th, Sun in Sag, and more. However, 5:59 am-25 Scorpio seems right. Fixed rising. Co-rulers in the 1st and 9th-houses of life-in fire signs. Mars co-ruler in Sag for double Sag theme, which I seem to be drawn to. Ruler of the 2nd in the 8th, Venus in 2nd, Mercury conjunct Venus and ruling 8th - able to attract earn the big bucks. Moon in Aries in the 6th - tech and research in healthcare field. It seems a lot of people liked Libra because of Capricorn 4th house but the Asc. also describes early conditions and Scorpio can indicate toughness, by the bookness, repression, and responsibilities. Saturn/Uranus in the 7th. Ruler of the 7th conjunct Mercury - first wife a secretary, second wife a sales rep. And more. But specifically: 1961 left college, posted to Japan--we don't know exactly when but t. Uranus 21-29 Leo that year, 02-15-61 Solar Eclipse 26 Aquarius. 

Dec 1988 started with B&W As previously noted, p. Asc. 2 Capricorn conjunct natal Venus in 2nd. March 24 1993 fired from B&W t. Saturn 25 Aquarius, t. Pluto 25 Scorpio, p. Moon 25 Aquarius, s.a. Mercury 25 Aquarius, 12-24-92 Solar Eclipse 2 Capricorn, 05-21-93 Solar Eclipse 0 Gemini. Oct 1994 huge fight with his wife 11-18-94 Lunar Eclipse 25 Taurus. This doesn't help with the time but 11-29-93 shortly before his year in hell Lunar Eclipse 07 Gemini. I've never used eclipses like this before but if this time is right it certainly is interesting. I used 5:59 because it seemed to work but with more info I would look between 5:54-5:59.

All references to birth horoscope placements and transits are to sidereal zodiac calculated with Lahiri Ayanamsha. I feel that Wigand is born with Scorpio Ascendant. I used the tenets of Vedic astrology and the sidereal Zodiac as these are the things I am more familiar with.

My reasons are:
Mars in the ascendant may well explain his interest in martial arts.

The Moon is in Ashwini Nakshtra in Aries and Mars is in the eighth from in Scorpio, in his own house. This constitutes KUJA DOSHA(Martian blemish) of high intensity. This YOGA can result in incompatible marriage. But with Scorpio ascendant the seventh house Taurus has Saturn, Uranus especially explaining the death of his first wife. Ketu, the South Node is in the 4th house in Aquarius. This accounts for the strict and 'brought up according to the book' childhood.

More appropriate is the North Node Rahu in the tenth house. North Node in the tenth house can cause trouble to brew in the work area. And Rahu can give job shifts where the nature of work in the new job is unrelated to previous job experience. This is what I understand to have happened when Wigand took up Japanese teaching. Mercury in the second house is the cause of proficiency in a foreign language. There is GAJAKESARI YOGA (Jupiter and the Moon in mutual angles) in the horoscope with Jupiter in exaltation and within tight orb. This has given right action and recognition to Wigand.

DASA/BHUKTI

I tried using the VIMSHOTTARI MAHADASA to try and see if the nearly 6am birth time suits the pattern of known events.

The events, I think, that gel with the DASA scheme are: 

1. Venus sub-period(ANTARDASA) in the major period (MAHADASA) of Mars started in December 1988. The results were better job, moving into a new house, taking to drink.

2. With the beginning of Rahu Dasa in January 1991 rumblings started in his work which ultimately destabilized him by the end of the sub-period, by September 1993.

The next sub-period of Jupiter in Rahu major-period appropriately brought into focus the health of the child and legal issues. Both these matters being Jupiter's significations (KARAKATWA).

Jupiter with his good lordships of second and fifth houses and good placement in the ninth house spurred Wigand in the path of DHARMA that resulted in ultimate success and recognition.

TRANSITS:

Once I felt that Scorpio is the most probable ascendant, then I tried to fix the NAVAMSHA (1/9th part of a sign of 30 degrees). My gut feeling is it must be the first Navamasha from 0 degrees Scorpio to 3 degrees 20 minutes of Scorpio. (05:45 to 05:59am EWT)

The clinching argument is the transits of Saturn and Pluto around the time of crisis in Wigand's life.

Till March 1993 Saturn was transiting the Capricorn the third sign(immediate environment) from Wigand's Ascendant and the tenth(career and work) from his Aries Moon. Pluto was in the first degrees of Scorpio. And both were prancing around up and down, retrograde and direct giving Wigand 'the year of hell'.

Wigand's retrograde natal Saturn went direct fifty one days after his birth. In his fifty first year Wigand lost his regular job and found his life's mission.

Am I anywhere near the Truth?. But it was such a lot of good exercise. Thank you Mark and Astrodatabank. I look forward to the next one.

Interesante trabajo el que desarrollo el Astrologo Dymock Brose, con el soft Jigsaw, ya que evaluo perfectamente los grados más fuertes o criticos de la Carta Natal de Jeff, pero falla el criterio de seleccion, porque le da preponderancia al ASC, el cual sea Virgo ó Geminis no refleja ni la personalidad ni la experiencia que vivio Jeff.

Sin embargo si Dymock hubiera tenido en cuenta que los grados se refieren al MC, estaria acertado (BINGO!!!).

La rectificacion que realicé tiene como ASC=9º00' Sagitario y el MC=27º12'Virgo!!!!!!

Some notes about using JigSaw for graphic rectification:

Graphic rectification is based on transits. The concept is based on the hypothesis that the angles of a chart are the most sensitive points to transits. A list of important events is compiled from the person's life. For each event, the positions of the outer planets are recorded and the degree positions are plotted on a graph. You can use different harmonic graphs; a 30-degree graph is used in the auto-rectification module. The peaks of the graph are the most sensitive degree points in the person's chart, as these are the degrees most consistently receiving transits when significant events occur. Once these peaks are found they are converted into possible angles that are mathematically valid for the location of birth. JigSaw will also look at graphs based on progressions.

JigSaw needs about 80 units of data to create a valid graph. For each accurate date, seven units of information are gained (i.e. the positions of Mars through Pluto and the Node). Therefore, at least 11-12 life events are needed. Preferably, these life events should be spread out over the course of the life. While you should use specific dates wherever possible, the program will allow you to enter a date range of plus or minus15 days. So, if you know something happened in the month of May but you don't have the exact date, you can enter May 15 and a date range of plus or minus 15. The program can mark a year as significant and this is nice if you've already got 11 or 12 valid events. Year markers should not be used as a substitute for an event. There are several problems with using JigSaw with the Wigand information that was presented in the ADB challenge.

There are not enough usable dates, the usable dates are within a 4 year period and they all relate to one aspect of life - career. Events 1 to 3 and 12 cannot be considered because we do not have a date or a usable date range; we only have a year. We can allow event 4. Events 5 through 9 are too close in time and, therefore, are essentially one event. The same applies to Events 10 & 11 and 13 & 14. Event 15 is usable. I don't see what #16 really has to do with him personally unless the choir was chosen because it was HIS school choir and it was a way of honoring him.

As far as I am concerned, there is not enough information for JigSaw to use to create a valid result.

This is the greatest site! I am having so much fun with it!

All of your selections are tremendous choices, but Jeffrey Wigand is especially intriguing. I am not new to astrology but am new to the internet and attempting rectification. My questions and comments: 

Do you present the charts in equal house so as not to take sides in the house division question? Or do you prefer it? Or especially so for rectification? I noticed in my 15-20 year old "Profiles of Women", Lois used Placidus; in my new edition "Profiles of Women", Koch. Can you comment? I have tried to print some of the comments but the type comes out much too small to be decipherable. Is this my system or is your format printer unfriendly? I have Mac Powerbook OS9. I am curious as to what similarities there might be between Jeffrey Wigand's chart and that of Erin Brockovich. Also I am curious as to Russell Crowe's chart. He was born April 07 1964 in New Zealand. He has sun, mars and jupiter in aries! No wonder he was such a good choice to play Wigand. Knowing his birthtime might show more similarities.

4. Libra rising accords with Jeffrey's known characteristics, while the Sign Cancer that I formerly thought was rising now appears at the Midheaven, which satisfies the perceived Cancerian characteristics.

First of all I don't see that guy with a Libra asc. Usually men with an asc. Libra have a shape very delicate (like a woman), and their smile are so brightless.

When I saw the picture of that guy (before look at his chart on the net) I think myself: "Hum...that guy look like a Sagittarius", after that I saw then he is a Sagittarius.

So, with an Sagittarius asc. he have Neptune in X (neptune represent tobacco). Saturn-Uranus in VI (research). Mars in house I (combative).

It's just a feeling. I can't wait to know what is the real ascendant! Bye

Yes, Tropical Libra is often slender in build. But the degrees near the end of Libra may start to resemble Scorpio. I agree: Wigand doesn't look like a Tropical Libra ascendant.

Vedic astrology, Vimshottari Dasha system based on geocentric Moon and Lahiri ayanamsh. Please excuse me for not using the English names for the planets and signs. Having learned the Vedic names originally, I have never become comfortable with the English names. I find I think more easily when using the Vedic terms. I have included a list of corresponding terms at the end of this post.

Last time, I got down to choosing between Tula and Kark lagnas. I picked Tula because although to me Kark could account for a lot of his life, the wars that he went through would have taken place during Rahu Guru dasha, a few years earlier than they actually did. The latest parameters we have been given (1:00 to 7:00) leave Kanya (about 1:00 to 3:11), Tula (3:11 to 5:45) and Vrischik (5:45 to 7:00) lagnas. My approach, as before, is to try to eliminate the possible lagnas that don’t fit. I believe it is better to eliminate the lagnas that don’t fit as opposed to trying to pick the one that does. That way I don’t narrow down my field of possibilities too early and miss a promising chart. I decided Kanya is out because he would have been too likely to remain happily married (Gu Lord of 7 (marriage) exalted in the 11th (gain)). I had to eliminate Vrischik because his wars took place during Rahu Guru, but for Vrischik Guru is Lord of the 2nd and 5th exalted in the 9th, so Rahu Guru would have been a time of good fortune and not of conflict.

Regardless of the lagna, it is instructive to see that his war was mostly finished before Sadhe Sati, the seven and a half years when Shani transits the sign before, of and after his Chandra that is considered to be an inauspicious and often difficult time.

Being left with Tula, I will be quite disappointed if it turns out to be incorrect. Rishi Parashara says when the Lord of the 1st House is placed in the 3rd, the native will be like a lion in valor. (Shukra Lord of 1st in 3rd). To pinpoint what time within the 3:11 to 5:45 window of Tula, I used the elimination process again from amongst the nine possible Navamsh charts, which I believe are termed harmonic one-ninth charts in Western astrology. I think of this process as analogous to Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle: the more accuracy one requires, the more uncertainty is introduced.

The Navamsh chart specifically relates to spouse, as well as other areas of life. I decided that although Tula lagna already shows difficulty in marriage, the Navamsh chart must also show more trouble because of his two marriages and two divorces. It ideally will also reinforce his qualities of stubbornness, righteousness and scientific research-mindedness. I eliminated Tula, Dhanu, Makar, Kumbh, and Meen. That leaves Vrischik (3:29 to 3:45) and Mesh, Vrishabh and Mithun (4:55 to 5:44). Then I eliminated Mesh, Vrishabh and Mithun because in the Chaleet Kundali, Shukra the Lord of the 1st slides back from the 3rd to the 2nd, and I wanted to keep it in the 3rd so that Parashara's description still holds. I also liked the 3 level dasha combinations in Vrischik Navamsh better, particularly for the death threats on April 22 and 28, 1994 in Rahu Rahu Mangal. In addition, the Chaturtamsh chart (harmonic one-fourth chart) for destiny fits better in my opinion for the first fourth of Tula as compared with the last half of it. This was as far as I got last time. I picked 3:40 because it was a round number somewhere in the middle of Vrischik Navamsh.

Now to see if I can get any more precision, assuming I haven’t already gone astray: I didn’t have many exact dates, but one that stood out was when he agreed to do the 60 Minutes TV interview – Aug 3, 1994. I decided that should be Rahu Guru Guru Shukra or Rahu Guru Guru Chandra, but not the in-between dasha of Rahu Guru Guru Surya. This eliminated the Shashtiamsh (harmonic one-60th chart, read for all areas of life) of Kanya, and left Mesh through Simh and Tula through Vrischik. I got rid of Mesh through Mithun because marriage is not afflicted enough in them. The possible times are now 3:34:30 to 3:39 and 3:42 to 3:45.

Tula Shashtiamsh is too afflicted for marriage – the chart must at least allow him to be married before breaking up the marriage. Vrischik Shastiamsh is too lucky. I like Simh Shastiamsh better than Kark. I also prefer Dhanu Akshavedamsh (harmonic one-45th chart) to Vrischik. My final time is 3:39 plus or minus less than 30 seconds.

If it is correct, I am available for lectures. If not, well I am just an amateur student of jyotish anyway, and besides, I am keeping my day job.

I haven't worked much with rectification because astrologers always seem to get different charts for the same person. But, why not try out some theories with Wigand's chart? This is more of an example of how I might approach rectification then knowing exactly how to go about it. It bothers me that there is no birth certificate, but only a personal statement. I've never seen Wigand on TV, so don't have an impression of him "in action."

APPEARANCE
I first noted the ascendants between 1:00 a.m. (4Vir01 sidereal Krishnamurti) and 7:00 a.m. (15Sco13). The next thing I did was check the photo project I'm working on with ascendants organized by decanate. Based on the drawings and photos I have so far, there seemed to be only two possibilities: the last decanate of Virgo and the first decanate of Libra. (However I don't have enough examples yet to make this a really firm statement. I've been waiting for the next release of ADB with sidereal positions.)

From Wigand's appearance I'd say he has to have a "soft" planet aspecting the ascendant. These are Venus and the Moon. Sidereally the Moon is in early Aries, which would be opposing an early morning ascendant in the vicinity of 3:30. Wigand has a round soft-looking face and wears silver rimmed glasses, which suggests a lunar aspect to the ascendant (the head and upper face). Wigand had a reputation for verbal outbursts, which can be shown by Mars in the 2nd (mouth, tongue and lower face) opposed by partile Uranus. Mercury is speech, but it's with Venus, so Mercury doesn't describe Wigand's outbursts. I tentatively made Scorpio the navamsa ascendant (3Li20 > - 6Li40, 3:28-3:45 a.m.).

ADB RESEARCH
I decided to use AstroDatabank to pull up charts in the area of biology. I was specifically looking for science/biology as a career, since that was Wigand's work. There were nine biology charts with ascendants in the target time area. Three of these ascendants including Lewis Pasteur fell in the first decanate of Sidereal Libra, two of them in Scorpio navamsa. Hmmm...not bad odds. Although initially it was tempting to use a Scorpio ascendant (with Mars in 1st), I rejected that ascendant because that should be a very physical person, and Wigand was a scientist, a relatively sedentary occupation. Also Mars tends to give a sharp face and lean physique. The only Scorpio ascendant chart of the nine had the Sun in early Libra, Scorpio navamsa!

These are some of the factors I checked in the biology charts. I also added the charts of 6 chemists.

1. The Gauquelins found Saturn and Mars related to science. In every case Mars and Saturn were linked to the 10th lord via major aspect and/or dispositorship. Examples 10th lord Mercury in Aquarius, Mars trine Saturn Saturn opp Mars, Mars quincunx Moon, 10th lord. 10th lord Mercury in Capricorn, Mars square Saturn. Taking Wigand's chart with a Libra ascendant: Moon, lord of 10 is in Aries, Mars is opposite Saturn. There is no Mars/Saturn link to 10th with Virgo or Scorpio ascendants.
2. Ascendant Lord by House: Of the 15 charts, all but two ascendant lords were in houses 12, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, all under the earth except for house 12. This would eliminate a Scorpio ascendant for Wigand, whose lord is in the 1st.
3. In all but one of the 15 charts, Pluto was in houses 6-10. That would tend to eliminate a Virgo ascendant for Wigand, which puts Pluto in the 11th. Pluto in the 10th for a Libra ascendant could mean something hidden brought to the surface and made public, perhaps through research. So I found some additional support for a Libra ascendant. Wigand looks nothing like the 3rd decanate of Libra, and the 2nd decanate is wholly contained in Swati, which has the reputation of being soft, vacillating and unsteady. That leaves only the two navamsas at the beginning of Libra, both in Chitra, a lunar mansion ruled by Mars. Chitra is said to be unconquerable and to be a balanced and analytical thinker. Ketu stood out very strongly in the biology charts: conjunct the natal or navamsa ascendant, aspecting the lights, conjunct the ascendant lord, etc. Wigand has four personal planets in Ketu's lunar mansions (Moon, Sun, Venus, Mercury) and Ketu is in Scorpio with Pluto in the navamsa chart. Rahu is also in a Ketu mansion. I gave points here for a Scorpio navamsa.

PLANETS IN HOUSES
I would be the first to call houses a kettle of worms, but I checked them out anyway. In this case planets in signs were exactly the same as planets in the Indian equal houses. Wigand had no older siblings but several younger ones. The third house (younger siblings) has three planets. Rahu is in the 11th, which would indicate no older siblings. (George W has Rahu in the 11th and a powerful Mars in the 3rd to represent that notorious younger brother.)

Wigand was divorced. 7th lord Mars is opposed by Saturn and Uranus in the 8th. Wigand was a teacher and held positions of authority in his work Jupiter is exalted in the 10th house, and in the navamsa 10th lord Sun is exalted in Aries.

PERSONALITY TRAITS
We'd expect to see a strong Mars influence with Wigand's feisty disposition and willingness to combat big business and big money. An ascendant in early Libra (up to 6Li40) would give a Mars lunar mansion. Mars then is powerful in the 2nd (speech) in Scorpio. It's also opposing planets in the 8th, which I relate to groups and organizations. Natal Moon is in Aries. A fixed Scorpio navamsa with Pluto and Ketu gives more Mars energy, and in the navamsa chart itself the Sun and Moon are in Mars-ruled Aries receiving the full aspect of Mars.

Wigand was a perfectionist, a workaholic, and worked in the health field. All these come under the Sun (i.e., think tropical Virgo, which is the same as sidereal Leo.) A Libra ascendant gives the ascendant lord conjunct the Sun, and in the navamsa the exalted Sun is conjunct the Moon, natal 10th lord. Together the Sun and Venus might describe biochemistry (Venus= chemistry; Sun=life).

EVENTS
All this gets me only to square one. Next comes events, and we have very little to work with here. Knowing only the year or month for an event isn't very helpful. If I were working with a client, I'd look at a number of solar returns, but when only the year is given (as in many of the events in Wigand's bio information), it isn't possible to know which solar return applies, before or after the birthday.

So I looked at the transits for the key times given in Wigand's biography. Mainly I was looking for important degrees where there were no planets, thinking that would help to isolate the ascendant degree. The year that Wigand was posted to Japan, Saturn was hovering around 6 Capricorn. This would be near the 4th equal cusp (the home) for early Libra. Saturn brings changes, here possibly a change of residence.

When Wigand began corporate employment, Jupiter was at 5 Taurus. This would put it near the 8th cusp (the 8th ruling money from others, corporations, groups, etc.) Basically, however, there was precious little to work with using events because most of the events correlated with major transits to natal planets.

So without exact dates and times to work with, I'll suggest a possible birth time between 3:28 and 3:45 a.m. the time period when Scorpio would be the first house sign in the navamsa chart. A time after 3:42 gives a more likely looking Dasamsa (career) chart. This would put 6 sidereal Libra on the ascendant (29 tropical Libra).

Info about home and childhood suggests either CAPRICORN on the cusp of phase 4 or Saturn in 4th phase. CAPRICORN on 4 is within the given 1-7AM EWT timeframe. This gives LIBRA as Ascendant.

Looking at the horoscope as an organic structure of processes, I use equal 30 degree phases from the Ascendant. I would in the first place like to ask Jeffrey a number of questions pertaining to his behavior for rectification purposes and secondly would use dates and transits through the phases for secondary tests. Since the information is more factual, I am rather limited but I'll try to describe the way I usually go about.

The first questions would concern the placement of the planets in the phases.
MARS, ruler 7, in 3 or 2? Matters of value are of great importance, I guess 2, Asc > 1°07/08
URANUS, ruler 5, in 8 or 7? I guess 8. Asc > 1°41
NEPTUNE, ruler 6, in 1 or 12? The matters of addiction and of clarity vs. vagueness being so important, I guess 12. Asc > 1°58
VENUS, ruler 1 and 8, in 4 or 3? Would his first shift, after he has started some sort of initiative, be towards emotional security and binding (4) or towards trying to find his own way (3)? From the information I take it is in 3. Asc > 2°12/14
MERCURY, ruler 9 and 12, in 4 or 3? 3. Asc > 3°42/45
PLUTO, ruler 2, in 11 or 10? 10. Asc > 6°56
SATURN, ruler 4, in 9 or 8? 8. Asc > 7°48
There is a gap here of 15°31' between Saturn at 7° and Jupiter at 23°. There is a second gap of ca. 6°26' between SUN at 24° and MARS at 1°. Thus we have two groups of planets unless both are connected with the Ascendant.
JUPITER, ruler 3, in 10 or 9? 9. Asc > 23°19
MOON, ruler 10, in 7 or 6? Health-care: I choose 6. Being confrontational, I take it the MOON is in opposition with the Ascendant. This gives the Ascendant between 18°31 and 29°59, in any case ARIES.
SUN, ruler 11, in 3 or 2? If what he really wants is to believe in his values, then it should be 2. If he rather wants to believe in his ideas and in finding his own way, then it should be 3. I think, from the info, that the SUN is in phase 2. Thus the Ascendant is > 24°44, < 29°59.

My next questions would concern the aspects of the planets with the Ascendant. I use all 30° multiples. Thus far, MOON is opposite, SUN sextile Asc. Now either MARS halfsext, and URANUS inconjunct, or JUPITER square, could be in aspect with the Ascendant. I tend to think that, with MARS and URANUS in aspect with the Ascendant, his extreme energy (choosing between his inner ideal values and the manipulative ideas of the other party) can find its way out. This limits the possible degree of the Ascendant to > 25°41 and < 29°59.

Finally I would take a look at transiting planets PLUTO through JUPITER in phases and in aspect with radix planets. I would also take into account the function of the transiting planet in the radix. As I suppose that this technique is a familiar one, I leave it at that. Just for fun, I select the 27th degree of LIBRA as the Ascendant.

1º.-Los datos proporcionados para Jeff son insuficientes en especial porque no se dan con precision de dia/mes/año, esto dificulta la tarea de rectificacion.

2º Un error comun que observo en los astrologos que participan, es que quieren encontrar la hora real de nacimiento de una persona utilizando transitos planetarios, y esto es un gran y grave error, para rectificar se debe de utilizar Direcciones Primarias, Direcciones Simbolicas planetarias y Direcciones Mundanas.

3º.- Solicito una cronologia de los hechos más importante de la vida de Jeff, simplemente indicando el suceso ó evento y la fecha del mismo.

4.- Para encontrar la Hora de nacimiento de Jeff, realicé lo siguiente: 
Utilicé muy especialmente el dato del 03/24/1993 cuando es destituido de la empresa, astrologicamente existe para ese dia el vencimiento de la Direccion PLUTON Conjuncion al MC ( 01º00'00''= Tolomeo )y la Direccion Primaria bajo Polo Topocentrico de MC en Semicuadratura a Mercurio Regente del MC. 
Con mayor cantidad de datos se podría todavia afinar aun más esta Carta NAtal.

5º.- El Asc=Sagitario es el exacto en la descripcion fisica del Sr. Jeff, ya que Jupiter su regente se ubica en Cancer, de hay su estomago prominente ( gordito ) y su personalidad inestable y cambiante, con el dispositor la LUNA en Aries, dandole impulsibidad, stress, ansiedad e inmadurez.
Observen que la LUna esta en Aspecto con el MC (Quincuncio ) esto esta relacionado con la popularidad que adquirio Jeff, además del aspecto mediatico por la presencia de Neptuno en Casa X.
El Sol en cuadratura con el MC desde la Casa I, situacion que lo lleva a confrontar con Hombres importantes, Observemos tambien que Jupiter realiza un Aspecto de Semicuadratura al DSC y esto habla de los problemas legales que debio afrontar y las discuciones.
Mercurio se encuentra en semicuadratura con la cuspide de Casa III, y esto tiene que ver con problemas de comunicacion, cuestionamientos y critica, que se refiere cuando dice... The good folks at astrodatabank informed me that I had entered a second time of after 8am, which is not in the new parameters. I am really happy they pointed my dingy in the right direction, so I can continue fishing! For fishing tackle I am using the 24/03/93 line, as it is the only line with some bait to hang onto something. The t uranus is hitting the Midheavan {6 Virgo} in this chart via a sesquisquare. I am not going to tell anymore fishing stories until the folks at databank give me a better astrological depth sounder. Wigand's chart is down their somewhere!

Going back to get some sandwiches on shore, but I will be back later.

I wanted to take another look at this, with the thought of expanding my knowledge, and offering a few more lines of reasoning to my previous post.

With the 23 Scorpio rising, and 11 Virgo Midheaven that I arrived at rather quickly, via the 3/24/93 transits, and a link of t uranus to the midheaven, I thought I would check to see what some of the progressions/transits looked like on this birth time.

61 – Japan – prog ascendant 7sag. opposite 7gem saturn. This seems fitting as he is in a foreign country learning a new language.

63 – Vietman – prog 8Sag ascendant is sesquisquare the 9th house jupiter at 23cancer another foreign land indicator.

71 – Getting married at the saturn return is quite common, so I wouldn't read too much into it, however, if it is a 7th house sat, then getting married at this time would seem fitting. The surprise and inherent responsibilities associated with the sat/uranus conjunction here would also correlate.

3/24/93 – prog ascendant at 3 cap conjunct mercury. The midheaven ruler mercury, and the issue of being fired over difficulties in communication would make sense. So would the transit of uranus through the 3rd and making a hard aspect to the midheaven at 6 Virgo, which got me going on this time, in the first place.

Perhaps it's better not to try to read too many things into charts that one doesn't have a specific birth time for, but this is an exercise of the mind, and not like some silly fishing derby like I made out in my last post. I live on the westcoast, and hope that explains all this.

Ketu rules the chart here, as it is the ruler of 5 out of the 10 lunar mansions of the planets and Ascendant. Ketu acts like Mars, and Mars rules 2 of the remaining 5 lunar mansions, giving 7 lunar mansions with this energy. Thus Mars is the operative planetary energy here. JW was a crusader, brave and courageous, and willing to speak out. But Ketu, the "disconnected" gives it an unusual spin, something unexpected, surprising.

A Libra Asc. puts Mars in the second house of speech and expression, lending Mars' aggressive, dynamic energy to the life. Also, smoking is connected to the mouth, another 2nd house meaning.

JW's fame arose from litigation, enemies and career. With a Libra Asc., this puts Jupiter as ruler of the 6th house of litigation and enemies - also health problems, the issue with the whistle blowing itself. Jupiter is in the 10th house of career, linking the two meanings. Jupiter is weak though, being in the 1st degree of the sign, and ruler of two negative houses of 3rd and 6th. This meant JW could not prevail against his enemies in the corporation. However, Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, and ultimately makes JW a winner.

Sun, Venus and Mercury sit powerfully together in the 3rd house of impulsive action, relevant here.

His physical characteristics are associated with Taurus or Cancer, where he has major planets.

In terms of family, Ketu in the 5th is difficult with children, as Ketu is a separative planet. JW was separated from all his children. Also, Saturn, ruler of the 5th, sits in the 8th house of severe diseases. JW's child had a very severe bone or nervous disease - both Saturn. Mars rules 7th house of marriage - never easy, but with this Mars, exacerbated by the greath strength of Ketu because Ketu has a similar energy, and Mars very closely aspects Ketu, major fighting in the marriage is almost guaranteed.

In the dasa system, all the career problems happened immediately upon entering the 18 year Rahu dasa. Rahu can be guaranteed to stir things up, plus bring the karma for this lifetime into action. Using this exact birthtime, every significant date triggers Ketu at all 5 levels.

The '60 Minutes' show was aired when his tertiary progressed Mars was exactly conjunct his natal Mars, and his lawsuit was dismissed on the exact moment of his tertiary progressed second return.

What a challenge - I can't wait for the result!

With the approximate birth time between 1 and 7 AM, I have re-done all the charts, transits and so on and I got the rising sign of Scorpio.

The rising sign degree is around 29°40' Scorpio and the time is approximately 6:17 AM EWT.

It seems probable and consistent with my research that he has Scorpio rising with Mars in the first house. The opposition of Mars and Saturn-Uranus is in the axis 1st-7th house. Transiting Pluto crosses his Asc and makes opposition to Uranus in crucial moments of his life.

I checked in Jyotish also. In Vedic Astrology he is Scorpio rising too and he has Mars in the first house in its own sign. It gives him Ruchaka Yoga (very powerful position).

Jupiter is in the 9th house exalted in Cancer and receiving an aspect from Saturn. This aspect in itself is important and it happens each 12 years and lasts 1 year. According to the Goravani program, it "marks a class of individuals that came to make a difference".

Rahu is in his 10th house in Leo and under the Nakashatra Magha. Rahu in its own period gives him Raja Yoga and the settlement occurred in a Rahu dasha period. His Moon is in the 6th house in Aries under Asvini Nakashatra making him very stubborn (Asvini) and with a lot of energy and agressiveness (Aries). I am looking forward to the result! :-)

My second choice for a morning birth time is 5:49 a.m. with 24 Scorpio rising and 6 Virgo 46 on the MC, which is then sesquiquadrate transiting Uranus posited in the Placidus 2nd house of income.

My first choice remains a birth time of 2:49 a.m., which places Uranus on the IC opposite the MC.

This sort of exercise is excellent practice, and will certainly give everyone who submits an entry a good idea of what works  – and what does not work. For almost 30 years, I have done this sort of test of my own abilities, with charts of persons more-or-less well known to me, and many I have known only by reputation. The most striking fact to me, at least, is the great difference in accuracy that knowing the subject personally can make. I arrived at birth times within a minute or two of hospital or other recorded times in the cases of my father and other family members. This was true also for some students I had worked with for a period of several years, and good friends of long standing. When I had not met the subject in person, my accuracy usually goes way down when I can verify the TOB, so I think one should keep in mind that fact in evaluating this test.

Some of the best clues that I had when trying to sleuth the TOB of persons even fairly well known to me were the birth data of the parents and spouses, and also dates of marriages and severe accidents. As someone pointed out, such things as high school graduations are programmatic. But what happened shortly after graduation is often very important, particularly in the secondary progressed chart.

The case of Wigand is particularly difficult because his Mars opp. Saturn-Uranus could be either 4-10 or 1-7 houses, since he consistently had difficulty in both areas. Sorry, I would not hazard a guess as to which would be preferable.

From the Vedic / sidereal point of view, it was likely that the 1st lord, which indicates the native, and the 10th lord which indicates career and/or authority figures, were in opposition or conflict in some way. The only configuration in which this occurs is for an Aries or Aquarius (sidereal) ascendant. The Aquarius ascendant however, does not indicate profession as a doctor or major difficulties with career, so it is not likely to be the correct one.

In the case of Aries ascendant, Mars is 1st lord and Saturn 10th lord, placed in opposition to each other. Also, 1st lord Mars is an enemy of Saturn in Vedic astrology which played out literally in his becoming an enemy of big tobacco (Saturn). This 10th lord Saturn is very powerful by being in the sign of mutual great friend Venus, by being in the very middle of the sign (14 deg. 42 min.), and by being retrograde. The 2nd house also governs liquid assets, something which big tobacco has almost unlimited amounts of, and Venus and Saturn are both highly materialistic planets (see also Ralph Nader's chart for a similar dynamic).

1st lord Mars (the native) is strong, sitting in the 8th house in its own sign of sidereal Scorpio, indicating his tenacity, intensity, combative nature and fighting spirit, all of which made him a formidable opponent and a force to be reckoned with. The 8th house rules research (uncovering secrets), and Mars, a physical planet, indicates machinery: thus he was a researcher of medical devices. His martial arts training would also incline towards a Mars ascendant or aspect on the ascendant.

Why a doctor? If the ascendant were to fall in the 1st 13 degrees 20 minutes of Aries, it would be in the lunar mansion of Ashwini, whose deities, twin brothers called the Ashwini Kumars, are famous as the physicians of the gods in Vedic mythology. 1st lord Mars sits in the 8th house which also rules long term or chronic illness in Vedic astrology, a major focus of his medical research as one of the consequences of smoking.

The placement of 10th lord Saturn in the 2nd house also confirms this ascendant as the 2nd house rules food (dietary habits), family, and liquid assets or money in Vedic astrology. An afflicted 2nd house (tenanted by natural malefic Saturn and aspected by natural malefic Mars) can indicate bad dietary or other habits of consumption, such as smoking. As a natural malefic in the house of family, 10th lord Saturn indicates clearly the disruptive and deleterious effect that big tobacco (career), had on his family life. This is a particularly difficult placement as Saturn is by nature inimical to close personal relationships. The mutual aspect between Saturn and Mars would also indicate the emotional difficulties (lack of feeling / anger) he had with his early family life. But as a powerful 10th lord forming a royal yoga with 1st lord Mars, (not to mention a wealth [dhana] yoga as Saturn is also 11th lord), it also brought him success and a very large income, particularly during his Mars dasha or life cycle (1981 - 1988).

Rahu, the north node of the Moon, is often associated with strange and incurable illnesses, and its placement in the 5th house of children indicates the spina bifida that his daughter suffered from.

To confirm the general birth time by timing of life events in the Vimshotari Dasha system, he went to Japan in 1961, a dasha / bhukti of Venus - Mercury. Both planets sit in the 9th house which indicates long distance travel. His first marriage took place during Moon - Moon, a planet which often indicates marriage and aspects his 7th house of marriage from the 1st house. His second marriage in 1986 was around the time of Mars - Venus, 1st and 7th lords. He started his 18-year Rahu cycle in 1988 when he went to work for big tobacco. Two of Rahu's indications in Vedic astrology are blind ambition and poison, both highly relevant to his life at this time. His major conflict with big tobacco started in 1993 when he began his Rahu - Saturn period.

To fine tune the birth time even more, we may look at the 10th harmonic chart, which indicates career. If he were born with the birth chart ascendant in 9 - 12 degrees Aries, this would make the ascendant of the career chart Cancer. This puts Rahu in the 3rd house and Saturn in the 11th, a configuration (Papa Sankhya Yoga) indicating major difficulty in his career during the dasha / bhukti of Rahu - Saturn (which began with his being fired from his job in 1993). This fixes the birth time to between 13:30 and 13:35.

This has indeed been a very interesting contest ... however I tend to prefer using exact birthdata, and 99 percent of the time my clients were able to give me exact birthtimes ... in the minority of cases where this was not possible, I would instead provide a psychic and/or tarot reading ... as far as I am aware, rectification techniques are largely theoretical, and when I first encountered them years ago, they seemed to only confuse an already complicated subject ... I have not yet found a satisfactory method ... I am currently giving the 'day for a year progression method' a try ... before I even put it to the test with Mr. Wigand (in which our data on his life events are largely second-hand), I am trying it on my own cases ... primarily myself ... because I know the exact data of my life events ... here is how I figure progressions ... (skip the next paragraph if the details intimidate you :-))...

here you need to know the exact position of your Sun in the chart, down to a second of arc ... first you calculate the present position of the Sun (or his position at the time in question, again to the second of arc) ... then you calculate exactly how much the Sun has moved since your last solar return (in other words the difference between the two positions, as an angle measured from the birth position, forward to the new position) ... this is a fraction of a 360 degree circle (on your calculator, divide the difference by 360 to get a decimal ... this is the fraction) ... in this method, each year of age counts as one day ... a fraction of a year counts as the same fraction of a day ... so you take your age, and count exactly one day for each year from your time and date of birth ... one year will take you to exactly the same time the next day ... 21 years will take you exactly the same time of day 21 days later ... then you take that fraction of a circle you found and express it as a fraction of one day ... ex. the whole circle is a whole day, 180 degrees = 1/2 day = 12 hours, 90 degrees = 1/4 day = 6 hours ... on your calculator take that fraction you found and multiply it by 24 (hours), and you will get an amount of time in hours (most of the time this will be a number of hours plus a decimal/fraction of an hour) ... you add this amount of time to your birthtime ... if the result is greater than 24, subtract 24 and roll over to the next day ... the new time and date is the data for your progressed chart for the moment you started with ... you simply erect a chart for that new data and it is supposed to give you some info about what is going on with you developmentally...

to use it as a rectification aide, you would need to erect a number of charts for the date and place in question, perhaps one for each hour (if you want to be thorough), and using the exact known data from events in the native's life, erect a progressed chart for each of the hypothetical charts you just erected ... whew ... lots of work ... then you look at each progression and see if there is any indication or close association with the event in question ... for instance, a marriage can be shown by a progressed Moon moving through the native's 7th House, etc...

I have not yet arrived at anything conclusive with this method ... it can be tricky because many of the events in our lives are formal ... graduations, awards, etc ... and are scheduled and likely to involve other people experiencing the same thing ... also there are so many combinations that can signal the same type of events ... also so much in this method requires exact data to begin with ... if you do not have at least exact dates for events (or even times) then you're pretty much stuck ... the one fact that makes this method stand out above others that I have seen is the fact that the Moon completes a cycle in the same number of days as Saturn takes years ... about 29 1/2 ... I can only conclude that there has got to be a simpler way of rectifying charts ... it is difficult enough to erect a progression knowing the exact birthtime...

what is encouraging is that there can be only one exact birthtime ... and only one time and date for each event that is given...

well, the research continues ... will let you know what I come up with...

?to get approximately birth time thanks to transiting Uranus, Neptune, Pluto in "the year of hell"? In this case it seems like the ASC must be on about 22° Capricorn, tropical zodiac, Placidus. So because Uranus and Neptune both were about there several times in this horrible year of 1994, maybe native ASC is here? Birth time about 9:10 AM in New York?
I know, it´s about method, so (?)...
ASC from picture of JW ... Capricorn?
For Placidus it will be Mars in 10th and Saturn in 4th house.

1. Cast chart for 12:01 pm. Decide on Moon sign. Taurus Moon fits best (stubborn, self-contained, says he’s a "plodder," build up of anger until explosion, wants to keep things as they should be). This narrows time to between 2:00 pm and midnight.

2. Cast chart for 7:00 pm (middle of period). Look at possible Moon aspects. Intense anger throughout life and history of problems with Mother is confirmed by square with Pluto. Trine with Mercury and Venus conjunction suggests that the strong idealism represented by Mercury and Venus conjunction is keyed into his overriding need to be productive, maintain stability. Possible trine (if earlier birth time) with Jupiter seems very wrong, as Wigand is not pleasant, kind, warm, compassionate, etc. Moreover, without this trine Jupiter has no Ptolomaic aspect – thus Jupiterian behaviors dominate the life. This is completely consistent with Wigand's insistence on the "truth," what is right, and idealism. Thus, all of the Moon’s consistent with life aspect possibilities are shown on this test chart and none of the inconsistent ones.

3. Evaluate possible Ascendants – Taurus to Virgo. I dismissed Leo and Gemini out of hand, both because of his appearance and description of his typical dress, and because of his typical demeanor – self-contained, poor social skills, etc. Pictures suggest Taurus, maybe Cancer, not Virgo (though he is said to be a perfectionist).

4. Evaluate possible Ascendants and Moon houses – Taurus ASC means 12th house Moon, perfect for his feeling at home in his laboratory, hospital and university settings, etc. 8th house stellium of Sun, Mercury, and Venus is also fully consistent with his strength in research. Cancer ASC means 10th house Moon and 5th house stellium, not nearly as attractive as the Taurus ASC. Virgo ASC is thinkable because of 8th house Moon (research), but stellium in 4th house seems inconsistent with homelife history. Taurus ASC and 12th house Moon narrows time to between 2:25 pm and 4:45 pm.

5. Cast 3:35 pm chart (middle of period). Look at Solar Arcs to angles in light of key life events. I focused on 3/24/93 firing date (age 51). SA Neptune arcs to Descendant (and opposing ASC) at 53, perfect for dramatic change, and the type of ego wipe out at that would follow his firing. Cast a chart at 3:28:30 pm to make the SA of Neptune exact at 3/93. Looked at secondary progressed and tertiary progressed Moon for 3/93 times. TP Moon also opposes ASC on 3/20/93!

6. Examine other Solar Arcs and key transits at other significant times. Transiting Saturn squares ASC on 3/28/93. Solar Arc ASC=Uranus, SA Jupiter=Moon, and SA MC=Sun, all in June of 1995, probably when he was hired as a high school teacher. Solar Arc Jupiter=MC and SA Moon=Sun in July and August of 1995 respectively. All of these are consistent with a new start, good things happening, especially with career. The events of 1987 (presidency of Biosciences) are also well reflected: Solar Arc MC=Moon in January, and his accumulated Solar Arc semisquare in February both reflect new career and life changing experiences. SA Moon=MC in April of 1987. Transiting Uranus square ASC in 1961 reflects move to Japan. Solar Arc Venus=Moon and SA Venus=MC in 1971 reflect marriage. Solar Arc Jupiter=Sun/Moon midpoint in 1977 reflect that good year. Transiting Uranus to Sun/Moon midpoint in 1981 consistent with meeting 2nd wife.

From Wigand's appearance and personal characteristics as disclosed in the biography I settled on Cancer as being the Rising Sign.

I decided on an Asc of 28Cn35 from an investigation of his age harmonics in relation to the dates of the events given in the biography.

Vedic astrology, Vimshottari Dasha system based on geocentric Moon and Lahiri ayanamsh. This exercise was a good one for reminding me how much I don't know. You asked for techniques, but I can’t say I have any special approaches. I started by trying to eliminate the charts I felt are unlikely. There are 13 possible ascendants, including Leo at both the beginning and the end of the day. There are also numerous sub-charts that might modify the main chart enough to make a seemingly unlikely main chart the correct one, but I didn’t have either the time or patience to go through so many sub-charts, so my first cut was necessarily a rough one. I read that Wigand's brother described mother as cold, so I ruled out Jupiter associated with the 4th house of mother by placement or by lordship. I also ruled out Moon in the 4th or lord of the 4th. This eliminates Virgo, Sag, Cap, and Aries ascendants. He seems too combative to be a Pisces rising.

Then I used Vimshottari Dasha to reduce the remaining possible main charts. One time period I relied on heavily came from a Vanity Fair article about him, which said that the reporter met him on Jan 30 (didn’t say which year, but seemed to be 1996), during a time his lawyer later named "Hell Week." I eliminated Aquarius, Taurus and Gemini ascendants (sidereal of course). At this point I had eliminated about 13 hours of birth time and 8 of the 13 possible main charts. I will be slightly disappointed if I learn that the correct time falls in one of the time periods I have eliminated. But if I am able to get closer than this point, I will be satisfied enough. The possible times are now 0:00 to 0:40, 3:12 to 8:10, and 19:33 to 23:59.

Although Scorpio rising initially attracted me because of Mars in own house in the first, the dashas didn’t seem to fit well enough. Leo rising goes out because as a self-described "plodder", Sun in Sag doesn’t fit; he would tend to be an arrow to the target. Now I’m down to guessing between Libra rising and Cancer rising; i.e. 3:12 to 5:43 and 19:33 to 22:04.

After choosing Libra, I used events and Scorpio Navamsh to pick 3:40 am as the time.

1. Dec 17/42 Sidereal time 5:39:57, 5 = the sign of Virgo on the MC, that places Scorpio or Sagittarius on the Asc. Physical characteristics fit Scorpio ASC.

2.Working with a time window from 5:44 - 6:18 am, the preferred planetary house positions lead me to pick 5:55:17 AM: Briefly, MA conj the ASC in the 1st, Jeff opposes his open enemies, he is seen & heard. SU-VE-ME in the 2nd house of high moral standards, SU = Biochemist, this career falls in the 2nd vs the 1st. Aries Moon in the 5th is someone who is willing to take risks. UR-SA in the 7th of open enemies. JU and Part of Fortune in the 8th provides support, the will of the people, investigative matters, research & development and also fits the career of a biochemist.
PL in the 9th, be prepared for legal battles, NE in the 10th is a career involved in drug addiction, Virgo MC = research.

3.To further substantiate the time, I picked 4 event dates and found at least one progression in celestial longitude or in declination that coincides with ea event "within four minutes of arc", this also applied to the transits.

5. Jeff's Astro-Carto-Graphy Map for 5:55:17 has his North Node Meridian line within 15 miles of Louisville KY, and his Jupiter Meridian line close to Los Angeles.

Therefore, with all the transits and secondary progressions substantiating the event dates of Jan 3, 1989 / Mar 24, 1993, Feb 4, 1996 and Jun 20, 1997 I feel confident that Jeff Wigand was born at this time.

I normally do not attempt rectification unless I have a birth time accurate to within a few hours. Trying to rectify a chart within a 24-hour period is a Herculean task that requires days of work. If I had to guess a possible time for Jeffrey Wigand, I would consider his physical appearance and any major disruptive events in his life.

He is described as a “plodder” with a thick neck and a round face. This sounds like Taurus or Cancer rising and/or Moon or Venus aspecting the Ascendant. The main public event of his life is his sudden dismissal from work on 24 March 1993. Uranus is usually prominent at such time, aspecting the Midheaven or key planets or progressed points.

For the sake of argument, I would try transiting Uranus conjunct the MC on 3/24/93. This would give a birth time of 2:47 pm EWT in New York City and an Ascendant of 8 Taurus 38 with the Moon within 7 degrees of the Ascendant and Venus trine the Ascendant from the 8th house.

A birth time of 2:47 pm EWT is a reasonable place to start, though there are many other times during the day that would also fit the facts given about his life. Unfortunately, I do not have enough free time to check out this potential rectification against the other events of his life. It will be interesting to learn the actual time of birth.

In view of his stubbornness Jeffrey Wigand should have a very strong first house. Using Astrakavarga 4 Sidereal signs are very strong – Taurus with 35 Bindus, Aquarius with 35 Bindus, Virgo with 35 Bindus, and Libra with 34 Bindus. As 28 Bindus are average all of these signs would indicate someone who is very determined and stubborn.

In view of his two failed marriages 7 house would have a very low or low Bindu count. This happens in all the above charts.

He was a high income earner so 11th house for income and 10th for career should be high in Bindus. 11th house emphasis shows unearned income, 10th house earned income ie. career. He had to earn his money so I would expect a stronger Bindu count on 10th house. This only applies on the Taurus Ascendant chart where there are 27 Bindus on 11th house and 36 on the 10th house. The Virgo Ascending chart has 29 in 11th and 28 in 10th so this is also a possibility depending on other factors.

I would expect the 6th house to be strong to overcome enemies. The Libra Ascendant 6th house has only 26 Bindus which is below average, and Aquarius 28 which is average. The Virgo Ascendant 6th house has 36 and the Taurus Ascendant 6th house has 35. So again both of these are contenders. Hence, I would place the Ascendant sign as either Taurus or Virgo. Unfortunately there are few specific dates, so pinpointing the Ascendant degree is not easy.

Looking at the date of his dismissal 24th March 1993
I note that there are a number of planets around the 17 to 23 degrees. ie. Jupiter 17°, Moon 19°, Mars 22° and Venus 23°. Also Rahu (the Moon's North Node at 22°). On the date of the ABC Broadcast (which possibly heightened his career problems) on the 28th Feb 1994 Sun was at 17°, Jupiter 21°, Moon+/-23°, Venus 27°. In the natal chart there is an emphasis on the early part of the signs i.e. Jupiter 1°, Sun 3°, Moon's Nodes 4°. In the transit chart for 24th March, Saturn conjuncts natal Ketu (Moon's South Node) and Pluto is at 2° Scorpio.

In the transit chart for 28th Feb 94 Mars and Mercury are at 1° conjunct natal Ketu, Uranus is at 2° and Pluto at 4°
There thus appears to be four possible SIDEREAL Ascendants:
1. 4 Taurus. (3:38pm)
2. 22 Taurus (3:02pm)
3. 4 Virgo. (0:55am)
4. 22 Virgo. (2:26am)

I will go for a 4 Taurus Ascendant as Ketu (the Moon's Nodes) resides in the 10th house of career. Ketu is of the nature of Saturn and Mars, and Saturn transits conjunct Ketu on both occasions. Mars Lord of the twelfth house of Loss is malefic in the natal chart and also transits Ketu on the 28th Feb 94. The Moons Nodes transit 1st/7th houses showing problems in relationships and Pluto opposes the Ascendant from the 7th house.

Using the idea that solar arc MC would indicate major life events – my guess is that he was born at 1:31am. From his picture I thought his smile seemed venusian which could be attributed to moon in taurus or libra/taurus rising. I went with Libra rising and moon in aries since he is such a fighter.

In 1961,when he was 19 years old, he moved to Japan – solar arc MC would be 22 Cancer (conjunct natal Jupiter).

In 1971 at 29 years he married – solar arc MC at 2 Leo which would trine natal mars (ruler of 7th house) and aspecting the angles of the natal chart.

And in 1994 "Year of Hell" when he was 52 – solar arc MC was at 25 Leo – hitting sun/moon midpt and squaring transiting Pluto in 1994.

Intuitive guess on the taurus ascendant, with moon in taurus, and the moon close to the ascendant, for the ploddy, glasses pushups description. This puts the moon into a clear square with pluto, and seems to fit with the descriptions of both his Mom, and his second wife. Also fits with him keeping his cards close to his chest. Taurus asc. will put an 8th house focus into the mix, with the Sag planets mars, and sun. Pluto in the fourth describes his home life.

First off, I did this fairly quickly. It's a bad way to do things, but when you're an aries, it's a good excuse for other astrologers.

I wrote down the main events, without going to any listed websites. After I had the main events from your biography, I worked off my basic hunch on the Taurus asc. I also saw the movie, which might have helped to solidify certain images, but not Russell Crowes, fwtw. I didn't have my ephemeris with me, but worked off the computer prog, in a fast way by using his birth data, and then replacing the year to isolate the approx. placement of Jupiter and Saturn. Why just these two planets, you ask? Simplicity is one obvious reason, backed up by the old traditions of astrology that didn't include the outers.

So for Japan 61, we have sat in cap, and jup in aquarius/cap. This fits with the taurus asc. as it puts his experience in a ninth house travel/higher ed focus. -met wife at judo class 70. Jup in scorp and sat in taurus. To break off for a moment, one has to separate the sign messages from the house messages, when trying to unravel and answer a rectification question. Sag and Gem figure prominently in the chart, but I honestly don't think he has gem rising for other reasons. Anyway, jup in scorp will bring on a new relationship{7th house to taurus} while at the same time sat in taurus- first house, will burden him with not wanting to focus on others.

child in 73 sat in cancer, and jup in aquarius

met 2nd wife 81. Jup in scorp again {7th house to the taurus asc}, and sat in libra.

86 married. Sat in sag and jup in pisces. The sat in sag would be an 8th house marriage indicator with his sun in the eighth.

Tobacco job 88. Sat in sag/cap-at his sun in the crisis house with a crisis situation in development, all assuming 8th house to the taurus ascendant. Jup in taurus...Self confidence, and expansion for the tentative taurus 1st house noted. I will throw in the Pluto movement in scorp here to add to the drama. This puts his relationship sphere into the dark zone, with the taurus ascendant. Also puts the secretive and powerful undercurrents of the tobacco industry at a 12th solar house angle to his sag sun..

fired from job 3/24/1993..Uranus at the Midheaven{21Cap with the 1:45pm birth time}, with an opposition from mars in the 4th. Significant in his particular case, as these two planets are also in exact opposition in his chart, and have to indicate any radical surprises that enter his life. Didn't look at the progs.

fired 93. sat in aquarius, and jup in scorp.

year of hell 94... sat in pisces squaring the gem/sag planets. Sat squaring the mars/sat opposition in his chart will bring pain of some sort. jup in scorp/sag- the release button is just about to be activated! 8th house jup is a most beneficial type of action {still assuming the taurus ascendant here, redundantly speaking}. Of note is the solar charts Sun in sag, with Jup in Cancer, {a Jupiter in the solar 8th house}, and a quincunx aspect of close exactitude 149%?, solidifying what I consider, for another obscure reason, to be a very fortuitous indicator, and someone with much fortitude!

Hi I am just a beginner but I feel his Asc is Taurus probably second deconate. I think he has Uranus and saturn in the first house of self opposing mars in the seventh house of other people. His sun is also in the seventh house putting his birth time between 4-6 pm.

Hi. I took another look at this chart and came up with 2:17 pm. 19 degree Taurus rising. 

Reasons: 

• Bio says early life strict catholic and oldest of 5 children. To me that is Saturn/Uranus in 1st house, many siblings is jupiter in 3 house of siblings as well as learning Japanese is 3rd house of communications, Jupiter gives ease of learning languages.
• joined air force is 6th house air sign libra
• 1st wife Linda represents 7th house with mars in 7th indicating trouble with 1st wife – she had muscle disease, also they divorced.
• His first child is represented by the 5th house, Chiron is there the wounded healer representing loss separation from 1st child.
• 2nd wife is represented by 9th house capricorn, she came from a well established family of doctors. Ruler of the 7 in the first conjunct uranus in the first represents his 2nd wife also. much strife, sudden change.
• He took up smoking and drinking, to me that is neptune in the 6 house of health and work, stresses of work neptune.
• He had two daughters with second wife, which is represented with the 7th and 9th houses as his first daughter is the 5 house. Health problems with second child again mars in the 7th.
• Sun in 8th house tends to make you famous or infamous when you are alive or leave a legacy when you die.
• venus and mercury in 8th house problems tied up with other people finances resources etc. both in capricorn meaning established business.
• moon in taurus 12 house of hidden secrets meaning tobacco firms that were not disclosing the real dangers of smoking which he was meant to keep a secret. emotions deep below tied up in hidden things. moon in the 12.

I thought Mr. Wigand would have Capricorn Rising with Moon in Aries in the 3rd and Scorpio on the Midheaven. The Moon in Aries seems to more accurately depict his "feisty, urban, confrontational" approach. As well, Uranus/Saturn in Gemini would be in the 4th opp. Mars in Sagittarius in the Tenth; his father was a mechanical engineer, and Wigand left college for more adventurous pursuits in the air force. The parental axis is also ruled by Pluto in Leo in the 7th and Venus in Capricorn in the Twelfth, the austerity of his childhood. An elevated Mars in Sag might also indicate his interest in things foreign and in flying. The seventh would be straddled by Jupiter and Pluto, possibly explaining the breakdowns and illnesses in his marriages. Mercury would rule the 5th in Capricorn in the 12th, his disabled daughter.

The progressed Moon is often a useful hint to the possible birth time in rectification. As well, the degrees of the midpoints that the Moon would form during the day in question are also often helpful. In 1986, when he married, the p. Moon would be near a conjunction with the Midheaven (often an indicator of marriage). When he left health care to work in the tobacco area, the p.
