Chapter 1: General Characteristics

     Your fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).

    Your "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if you are lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that you need to consciously develop that aspect of yourself to learn to appreciate and/or to work harder in that dimension of life.

    Sometimes we overvalue the element that we are least endowed with, sensing it as a lack within ourselves, but more often we neglect or ignore it. The qualities described below will be reiterated and explained in more detail in the following chapters.

    At times you function like the bureaucratic committee who will discuss and study a situation endlessly before doing anything about it: you lack the drive, passion, or confidence to put your best ideas into action. You may be reluctant to act forthrightly without the reinforcement and agreement of others, seeking feedback and advice when you actually need to simply act on what you already know.

    You need to develop a stronger sense of yourself, to build self-confidence, and to learn to be more self-motivated. Finding a source of inspiration for your life, something that warms you from within and gives life a sense of meaning, is also important for you.

    Fortunately, as you will read in the next chapter, you have a down-to-earth attitude towards life which prevents you from becoming lost in your airy ideas, concepts, or ideals. You have a healthy touch of practicality.

Chapter 2: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others

    The following is a description of your basic stance towards life, the way others see you, the way you come across, the face you show to the world. In Chapter 3 you will read about the "The Inner You: Your Real Motivation", which describes the kind of person you are at heart and where your true priorities lie. Read this chapter and the next one and compare them - there may be significant differences between them, in which case "the inner you" may not shine through and others are in for some surprises when they get to know you at a more than superficial level. This chapter describes the costume you wear, your role in life, while Chapter 3 talks about the real person inside the costume.

    Cautious, prudent, and rather self-contained, you are a person who approaches life realistically and who is not inclined to take foolish chances or get carried away by the overly optimistic or idealistic schemes of starry-eyed dreamers. In fact, you frequently have a jaundiced view of such things. You are rather worldly-wise at a fairly young age, even something of a cynic. Often the world doesn't seem like a safe, friendly place to you, and you tend to approach life in a guarded, conservative manner. You are generally calculating and careful, and are rarely spontaneous, fluid, open, and childlike.

    You are pragmatic, shrewd, and an excellent strategist, carefully planning your moves for maximum effectiveness and advantage. Chapter 3: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation

    Behind your rather serious manner (described in the previous chapter), you have a much lighter, more curious and open side. The self-discipline and self-control mentioned earlier help to balance some of the restlessness and flightiness described below. You have both a strong "adult" (mature, careful, realistic) component in your nature, and a strong "child" (mischievous, playful, fanciful) aspect as well.

    You are, in many ways, an eternal child. Your mind is bright, alert, curious, flexible, playful, and always eager for new experiences - and your attention span is often quite brief. You grasp ideas quickly and once your initial curiosity has been satisfied, you want to go on to something else. You crave frequent change, variety, meeting new situations and people.

    It may be hard for you to decide just where your talents and true vocation lie, for you have a multitude of interests and are loathe to limit yourself by concentrating on just one.     You have an extremely active, lively and versatile mind with a multitude of interests and an inexhaustible curiosity about life. You are quick to grasp new concepts and equally quick to lose interest in an idea or project once your curiosity has been satisfied. You like to taste a little bit of everything -concentration and disciplined study are not your strong points. Mentally restless, you may change jobs or locations frequently, or do work that involves movement, travel, and variety.

    You have a flair for language, playing with words, speaking, writing, or teaching in an entertaining and informative way. You also enjoy meeting new people, conversing and learning a little bit about them, and you work well with the public.

With this combination, there are a number of possibilities: you could accurately articulate the images and fantasies you have, you could forcefully convince others of your own brand of idealism (or illusion!), or perhaps you swing from being very clear and direct to being rather evasive or poetic.     Although your thinking is precise and logical, as described above, at times you can be quite the opposite. Periods of absentmindedness, building castles in the air, or ruminating over mystical, abstract, or imponderable subjects are also likely, as discussed below.

     Vague, confused thinking which can lead to miscommunication and misunderstandings can be a problem for you, and you have to work at being as clear, honest and unambiguous in your dealings with others as you possibly can. You tend, also, to "go off the deep end" regarding spiritual philosophies, imaginative ideas, or theoretical speculation which may or may not have any real relevance or validity. Try to critically test out your ideas, or seek out a person whose judgment and character you respect, to use as a sounding board.

    Never satisfied with the face value of anything, you are always probing beneath the surface for deeper reasons and hidden motives - though you rarely reveal your own. You have a very suspicious, even paranoid, side. You mind is penetrating and deep and you have an aptitude for research, investigative reporting, or private investigation. You are keenly interested in the deeper aspects of the human psyche, with a sort of "x-ray vision" regarding the inner motivations and intentions of others. You are drawn to anything secret, hidden, or mysterious, and may pursue esoteric or occult studies. You are also a forceful and convincing speaker or writer, with the ability to influence people's thinking by the sheer power of your conviction.

    Prudent and far-sighted, you have a talent for organizing and negotiating advantageous business deals. You have a wealth of plans and are capable of thinking them out and putting them into action successfully. You seem to have the sense to avoid any real risky ventures.

Chapter 5: Emotions: Moods, Feelings, Romance

    You do not appear to be an intensely emotional or sentimental person, and you are often unaware of your own or other people's deeper feelings and emotional needs. Tears and tantrums bewilder you and make you very uncomfortable. You would rather settle differences by talking things out reasonably and rationally, but you tend to ignore or poke fun at any attempt to probe your own or others' inner depths.

Chapter 6: Drive and Ambition: How You Achieve Your Goals

    You are noncombative, noncompetitive, and something of a pacifist. You will give something up rather than fight for it. You may seem weak-willed or ineffectual, for you do not have a strong ego drive for personal achievement and material advantage, or for winning at the expense of someone else. Being first, being best, being on top doesn't mean much to you, and you can be quite happy in a supporting role, working for the benefit of others or for a cause that you believe in. You are gentle and impressionable and are motivated by less mundane and less tangible things than most other people. You may have difficulty formulating clear, definite goals for yourself and making your way in the world. You have many dreams, high ideals, and a strong mystical or religious impulse. Chapter 7: Growth and Expansion: Areas That You Enjoy

     You cannot tolerate smallness or pettiness in any form, and you have a tendency to exaggerate. Also, you have a wonderful sense of drama! You must live boldly and heroically. Otherwise you feel you are simply existing and wasting your talents.

Chapter 8: Areas That Challenge You Or Are Difficult For You

     You both yearn for, and fear, being emotionally vulnerable with others and experiencing deep emotional intimacy. Trusting others and letting yourself be known in a deep way doesn't come easily to you, and sexual inhibitions may result from this. You are very self-protective and may be compulsively secretive. Learning to relinquish control in personal relationships, and to be completely open, are important tasks for you.

You need to develop discipline and patience in order to achieve your aspirations. You will grow by learning to accept frustration and to persevere in spite of obstacles.

Chapter 9: Originality and Imagination

Areas Where You Are Creative, Unique, Unstable, or Compulsive

     You need a lot of freedom in your close one-to-one relationships and you may experiment with nontraditional forms of relationships. You rebel against conventions and restrictions when it comes to marriage or personal relationships, and you're likely to choose a highly unusual, eccentric, or unconventional partner.

     You love to dream, fantasize, and speculate. You are willing to entertain the most far fetched ideas and philosophies, since to you anything is possible.

Chapter 10: Generational Influences: Your Age Group

    In this chapter we will discuss characteristics and traits of your generation. Of course, you may not share all of the characteristics of your generation, but you are greatly affected by the tone that is set by your generation.

    The first topic is "The Subconscious and Emotional Drive of Your Age Group". In this section we will describe a deeply felt urge, even compulsion, of your age group. This deeply felt drive comes to the surface with great force and power, and consequently leaves in its wake considerable upheaval and change. The second topic is "The Ideals and Illusions of Your Age Group", that describes the dreams, fantasies, and spiritual aspirations of your age group. The third and last topic is "What is New and Different in Your Age Group", which describes areas in which your age group tends to be innovative, inventive, unusual, and also where it may be unstable and unreliable.

    The characteristics described below may affect a group of people for anywhere from a few years to about 30 years. There are one or more different astrological factors described in each of the three sections below.

The Subconscious and Emotional Drive of Your Age Group

    You are part of a 20 year period that is often referred to as the "ME" generation, a generation that has a very proud and self-reliant attitude. You are a generation that is very concerned with self-development and personal integrity. Women's rights and minority rights are issues that your generation has fostered and they reflect your concern with individual respect, integrity, and honor. Your age group has a deeply felt sense that each person has an equal right and opportunity to fully develop his or her inner potential.

    However, your group also finds it difficult to be part of a team and a strong egotism makes group efforts difficult; you tend to see the individual as more important than the group.     You are part of a 14 year group of people who have a very idealistic sense of brotherhood and universal cooperation, which, among other things, fostered the peace and freedom movement. Your age group is also interested in the spiritual philosophy and ideals of other cultures, and is not at all dogmatic in its approach to religion. You incorporate the approaches of other religions. Your age group tends to have an eclectic approach to religion, utilizing elements from many religious perspectives (e.g. Eastern and Western), and finds it difficult to follow traditionally defined religious practices.

    A gullibility and an unwillingness to be decisive and judgmental inclines your age group to be easily deceived, and consequently many of the well-intended ideals and goals are frustrated by a lack of clear purpose and direction.

    You were also born during a period that lasted approximately 5 years and is characterized by an unusually high degree of imagination and sensitivity.
