Chapter 1: General Characteristics
Your fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by
the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of
these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth
(practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual
qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).
Your "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are
"unbalanced" or lopsided, and if you are lacking or deficient in a certain
element (or elements), it simply means that you need to consciously develop that
aspect of yourself to learn to appreciate and/or to work harder in that
dimension of life.
Sometimes we overvalue the element that we are least endowed with, sensing it as
a lack within ourselves, but more often we neglect or ignore it. The qualities
described below will be reiterated and explained in more detail in the following
chapters.
You are a nurturer and a protector and are prone to what has sometimes been
referred to as the "Atlas Syndrome", carrying the weight of the world on your
shoulders. You take your responsibilities to others very seriously and often
take on more than your share of their troubles as well. Though you appear (and
indeed often are) rather passive, you possess much quiet inner strength and the
ability to flow with, endure, and emerge again and again from life's inevitable
adversities. You are apt to be surrounded by people who rely and depend upon
you, and though you derive much satisfaction from providing, giving, and being
needed, you can also let yourself be drained emotionally and/or financially by
taking care of other people and not caring sufficiently for yourself.
You have a very strong need for security and are a "safety-first" creature,

passive, you must learn how to take initiative and motivate yourself.
A lack of warmth (either physically, emotionally, or both) may be evident in
you, which can show itself physically as a low energy level, paleness and lack
of color in the skin, or a tendency to be easily chilled, and emotionally as a
marked coolness or aloofness with little spiritedness, joyfulness, or enthusiasm
for living. Eating warming, spicy foods, living in a warm, sunny place, and
using fire in your daily life (lighting candles, using a wood stove or fireplace
for heat) can help balance you. Also, spending time with warm, cheerful,
positive-minded people and developing a philosophy based on spiritual optimism
can stir up your own zest of life.
Positively, you are unlikely to be egocentric and have a capacity for great
patience and peacefulness.

social stimulation and, though rather cautious and security-conscious, you like

Chapter 2: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others
The following is a description of your basic stance towards life, the way others
see you, the way you come across, the face you show to the world. In Chapter 3
you will read about the "The Inner You: Your Real Motivation", which describes
the kind of person you are at heart and where your true priorities lie. Read
this chapter and the next one and compare them - there may be significant
differences between them, in which case "the inner you" may not shine through
and others are in for some surprises when they get to know you at a more than
superficial level. This chapter describes the costume you wear, your role in
life, while Chapter 3 talks about the real person inside the costume.
You are very strong-willed and proud, but intensely private and not easy to know
well. Behind your quiet exterior lies a great deal of emotional depth,
sensitivity, complexity, and also fierce determination. When you want something
you go after it rather quietly but insistently and wholeheartedly - and you
usually get it.
You are not a person who lives lightly or superficially. You want to live
passionately and intensely and are not averse to challenge, danger, or to facing
the darker side of life - human pain and struggle. You function well in crisis
situations and often seek them out, for you enjoy the feeling of living at full

Chapter 3: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation
Though you seem at first rather intense, reserved, and self-contained (as
described in the previous chapter), you are really quite social and interested
in people. And, while you are passionate and emotional, you are also quite
capable of being fair, reasonable, and rational as discussed below.
Harmony and balance are your keynotes. You instinctively understand the need to
accommodate other people's interests and desires, and you are always fair and
willing to meet the other person half way. Tactful, diplomatic, and with
considerable social awareness, you do all you can to avoid conflict and discord.
You express a spirit of cooperation and compromise and often achieve through
charm and discretion what would have been impossible to achieve by a direct,
forceful approach.
Getting along with others and pleasing them may be TOO important to you, for you

Secretive and inclined to brooding silences, it is difficult for others to
really know your inner core, for you trust and open yourself to very few.
Allowing yourself to be vulnerable and to relinquish control in relationships is
not easy for you.
You have intense, passionate loves and hates and are a jealously loyal and
protective friend - or a fearsome foe. You have a nasty habit of holding on to

You are serious about your ambitions, and disciplined, dedicated, and tenacious
in pursuing your objectives. Your drive and energy are directed toward practical

You have an innate shrewdness, and the ability to develop a clear strategy and
follow it carefully in order to reach your goals. You also have a natural sense
of order, structure, and self-discipline. You are likely to excel, both because
you are ambitious and because it is very important to you to do a professional
job, no matter what field you are in, or how humble the task.
Wealth, material well-being, and prosperity are very important to you, and you
would never choose a profession that didn't offer you great promise and
opportunity for growth (financial and otherwise).
You are very generous and sometimes careless with money; you don't want to hold

Chapter 8: Areas That Challenge You Or Are Difficult For You
You have difficulty asserting your will and desires directly and openly. You
also may suppress your anger and aggressiveness. Developing self-confidence,
courage, and faith in yourself are important tasks for you.
Your childhood or your relationship with your parents was restrictive, unloving,
or unhappy in ways that may prevent you from allowing other people to get close
to you in later life. You felt deprived in some manner, whether or not you
actually were deprived in some way. Emotional separations or repression of your
needs and feelings may typify your early life, at least as you remember it.
Forgiving your parents and/or letting go of any resentments you have about the

build your own solid foundation, and investing time and energy into your home,

Your physical vitality and mental energy tend to be somewhat low. For this
reason you should try to avoid any unnecessary emotional and physical stress and

revert to when under stress - a mostly unconscious process and one which you are
apt to overdo because it is so familiar and thus easy for you. The direction you
need to follow in order to develop balance, greater awareness, and wholeness is
also described.
It is easy for you to become distracted from your purpose by the multitude of
interesting choices, possibilities, and options available to you. You need to
develop single mindedness and focus. Until you direct your attention to some of
the big questions, such as "What is my life's purpose?" "What is really
important to me and essential to my happiness?", you are apt to dabble, to
scatter your energies in many directions engaging in activities which are
entertaining but which are ultimately not fruitful or nourishing.
Having an overall vision for your life and aligning your daily activities so
that they support rather than detract from your larger purpose, is a significant
step in your unfoldment.
The arena you are most likely to wrestle with these issues is in your immediate,
direct encounters with others. There is a dynamic balance (or conflict) within
you between acting spontaneously and being true to yourself versus modifying
yourself or your behavior to suit others. You seesaw between being inordinately
concerned with self to being overly conciliatory and concerned with others'
needs, rights, or opinions about you. Learning to act authentically and
forthrightly regardless of possible consequences is your task.

Areas Where You Are Creative, Unique, Unstable, or Compulsive
Your work habits may be unstructured and you may find it difficult to settle
down to a routine task or work situation.
You are interested in new technologies or unusual, even revolutionary methods of
solving problems in your work. Nontraditional methods of healing and medicine
also fascinate you. You may work in an alternative health field or work for
change and reform in whatever field you choose.
You are a very idealistic person, and you want to see your ideals, hopes, and
dreams made concrete and real in the everyday world. You are driven to put your
ideals into action.

In early adult life it is likely that you struggle to find ways to express your
imagination, fantasies, and ideals in your career. Work that involves
compassionate service (such as medicine or the ministry) may be your calling. If
you lack personal integrity and honesty, you quickly go to the opposite extreme
and you can con others through dishonesty and trickery. Music, art, film-making
or entertainment are also areas in which you are well-suited.
You have strong philosophical views and there are times in your life when you
passionately crusade for a cause that you deem noble and of utmost importance.
Although your intentions are good, you are not as objective as you think you
are, and your views are more colored by personal experiences and concerns than
you realize. Nevertheless, you can also be instrumental in bringing about
positive change if you can avoid being dogmatic. Also, you may radically change
or revise your own personal beliefs, even your most cherished convictions, many
times during your life.
A frequent change in your energy level could bring about sudden feelings of
fatigue. You may not plan your objectives very carefully and feel disillusioned
when you suddenly realize that you miscalculated the results and your efforts

Chapter 10: Generational Influences: Your Age Group
In this chapter we will discuss characteristics and traits of your generation.
Of course, you may not share all of the characteristics of your generation, but
you are greatly affected by the tone that is set by your generation.
The first topic is "The Subconscious and Emotional Drive of Your Age Group". In
this section we will describe a deeply felt urge, even compulsion, of your age
group. This deeply felt drive comes to the surface with great force and power,
and consequently leaves in its wake considerable upheaval and change. The second
topic is "The Ideals and Illusions of Your Age Group", that describes the
dreams, fantasies, and spiritual aspirations of your age group. The third and
last topic is "What is New and Different in Your Age Group", which describes
areas in which your age group tends to be innovative, inventive, unusual, and
also where it may be unstable and unreliable.
The characteristics described below may affect a group of people for anywhere
from a few years to about 30 years. There are one or more different astrological
factors described in each of the three sections below.
The Subconscious and Emotional Drive of Your Age Group
You are part of a 25 year group of people who have strong feelings for home and
country. You are a sentimental group, and feel deeply attached to your family
and your country. You cling to the familiar, are distrustful and fearful of
different cultures, and consequently a great deal of racial and ethnic prejudice
is common among your age group.
Your need for closeness and togetherness runs very deep and causes you to bond
closely to family members and old friends, and also makes you prone to be
involved in mass movements and group activities because they feed your largely
subconscious need for acceptance and support by others. Unfortunately, your age
group is easily carried away by a group frenzy and many of you often lack the
integrity or courage to think and act in an independent and rational way.
Your generation is very emotional and tenderhearted. Many of your group
sacrificed a great deal to help your children or other family members, while
other generations are unwilling to give as much as you have. Your tender
feelings and regard for the well-being of others can spur your age group to make
contributions towards the feeding of the hungry, care for the neglected, and
support for the needy, particularly children and mothers. You are a group of
people with a strong heart and a helpful hand. Many of you have parents and/or
children who are not nearly as supportive and helpful; many of your
contributions are not completely appreciated or even go unnoticed.
The Ideals and Illusions of Your Age Group
You are part of a 14 year group of people who are conservative and moderate in
spiritual aspirations. Your age group tends to avoid speculation on metaphysical
matters, and interest in psychic phenomena is considered very strange and weird
by your age group. There is also a strong sense of right and wrong, and
religious practices tend to emphasize ethics and moral judgment. The
conservative, straight-laced atmosphere generated by your age group is
frustrating to more imaginative types, who consequently rebelled against it.
What is New and Different in Your Age Group
You are part of a 7 year group of people who are very progressive in business
and practical matters, and implement scientific ideas in practical ways to make
life more comfortable. Home appliances, for example, were improved and marketed
by your age group to a much greater degree than was previously done.
Your age group is also rather sensual and romantic, and is uninhibited in
expressing romantic feelings. Your age group rebelled against repressive
attitudes towards sexuality, and promoted overt expression of sexuality in
movies, music, etc.
