Chapter 1: General Characteristics

     Your fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).

    Your "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if you are lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that you need to consciously develop that aspect of yourself to learn to appreciate and/or to work harder in that dimension of life.

Chapter 2: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others

    The following is a description of your basic stance towards life, the way others see you, the way you come across, the face you show to the world. In Chapter 3 you will read about the "The Inner You: Your Real Motivation", which describes the kind of person you are at heart and where your true priorities lie. Read this chapter and the next one and compare them - there may be significant differences between them, in which case "the inner you" may not shine through and others are in for some surprises when they get to know you at a more than superficial level. This chapter describes the costume you wear, your role in life, while Chapter 3 talks about the real person inside the costume.

    Forward-looking and progressive, you are a person who supports change, innovation, and human advancement, and you are often strongly committed to a humanitarian cause or social improvement. You are extremely aware of the interconnection and interdependence of all people, and are always relating personal issues to some larger framework. You see the political or social ramifications of personal actions, and you wish to contribute something of value to the world, or at least to your community or group.

    The ideals of equality, fairness, human rights, brotherhood, social justice, etc. color your whole outlook and approach to life. You are truly interested in the good of the whole and not only your own personal well-being.

Chapter 3: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation

    Behind your seemingly rational, detached, cool, and objective manner (as described in the previous chapter), you are really far more passionate and emotionally intense, as described below.

    Quiet, deep, emotionally complex and intensely private, you are not a person who is easy to get to know and understand. You are extremely sensitive but disinclined to show it, and you allow only a special few into your inner world. Like a wary animal, you are cautious and mistrustful of those you do not know until you "sniff them out". You are very, very instinctive and intuitive. You usually have a strong, immediate gut reaction to people, even though you may be unable to clearly articulate why you feel as you do. Your feelings and perceptions go deeper than words.

    You have good mental concentration and the ability to become completely immersed in your work. You seem to know things at an instinctive, nonverbal level and prefer learning through direct experience or apprenticeship rather than vicariously via books or lectures. You have mechanical ability and work well with your hands. You could become adept at sculpture, pottery, carpentry, stained glass, or anything that involves doing and making things manually. Biology (and related fields such as medicine) interests you as well. You also have an instinctive rapport with animals, and may feel you relate better to them than to people!     Your desire for harmonious relationships and surroundings is so strong that you avoid personal confrontations or any expression of intense, unpleasant emotions. You are an idealist who would like to paint the world in pastel colors, and live in peace and harmony with others at all times. You are able to see points of similarity and unity with people who are vastly different from yourself, and befriend many different types of people.     You are proud and ambitious, and you strive to excel, to stand out and be recognized for who and what you are. You have a very strong ego drive and like to be Number One. You find it difficult to take orders from others or to stay in the background, and you hate being wrong; you always insist that you are right!

    You are forceful, strong, energetic, determined, and highly competitive. You play hard, you play to win, and you do not give up easily.      You have a great capacity for self-denial in the pursuit of a long-range goal. You are capable of hard work and persistent labor, but you may lack joyfulness and the ability to play. You often feel burdened by life's demands and responsibilities, and may envy those who seem to attract what they want in life without a great deal of personal effort.

Areas Where You Are Creative, Unique, Unstable, or Compulsive

     You have a reckless, impulsive, or very unconventional attitude toward money, material things, and ownership. Above all, you do not want to be possessed by your possessions. The obligations of owning things are likely to feel oppressive to you.

     Also, you may make your money in a field that is unconventional, highly unstable, or very inventive and innovative. Your fortunes are likely to fluctuate widely throughout your life.

     You often have very naive, idealistic, or overly romantic attitudes toward people, and it's difficult for you to see others realistically. Chapter 10: Generational Influences: Your Age Group

    In this chapter we will discuss characteristics and traits of your generation. Of course, you may not share all of the characteristics of your generation, but you are greatly affected by the tone that is set by your generation.

    The first topic is "The Subconscious and Emotional Drive of Your Age Group". In this section we will describe a deeply felt urge, even compulsion, of your age group. This deeply felt drive comes to the surface with great force and power, and consequently leaves in its wake considerable upheaval and change. The second topic is "The Ideals and Illusions of Your Age Group", that describes the dreams, fantasies, and spiritual aspirations of your age group. The third and last topic is "What is New and Different in Your Age Group", which describes areas in which your age group tends to be innovative, inventive, unusual, and also where it may be unstable and unreliable.

    The characteristics described below may affect a group of people for anywhere from a few years to about 30 years. There are one or more different astrological factors described in each of the three sections below.

The Subconscious and Emotional Drive of Your Age Group

    You are part of a 25 year group of people who have strong feelings for home and country. You are a sentimental group, and feel deeply attached to your family and your country. You cling to the familiar, are distrustful and fearful of different cultures, and consequently a great deal of racial and ethnic prejudice is common among your age group.

    Your need for closeness and togetherness runs very deep and causes you to bond closely to family members and old friends, and also makes you prone to be involved in mass movements and group activities because they feed your largely subconscious need for acceptance and support by others. Unfortunately, your age group is easily carried away by a group frenzy and many of you often lack the integrity or courage to think and act in an independent and rational way.

    Your generation is very emotional and tenderhearted. Many of your group sacrificed a great deal to help your children or other family members, while other generations are unwilling to give as much as you have. Your tender feelings and regard for the well-being of others can spur your age group to make contributions towards the feeding of the hungry, care for the neglected, and support for the needy, particularly children and mothers. Many of you have parents and/or children who are not nearly as supportive and helpful; many of your contributions are not completely appreciated or even go unnoticed.

You are part of a group of people who can be explosive and even violent in their reactions to situations. You do not tolerate being restricted, and your age group rebels with force and anger against oppressive situations.

The Ideals and Illusions of Your Age Group

    You are part of a 14 year group of people who are conservative and moderate in spiritual aspirations. Your age group tends to avoid speculation on metaphysical matters, and interest in psychic phenomena is considered very strange and weird by your age group. There is also a strong sense of right and wrong, and religious practices tend to emphasize ethics and moral judgment. The conservative, straight-laced atmosphere generated by your age group is frustrating to more imaginative types, who consequently rebelled against it.

What is New and Different in Your Age Group

    You are part of a 7 year group of people who are highly independent, self-reliant, self-willed, and rebellious.
