Chapter 1: General Characteristics
Your fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).
Your "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if you are lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that you need to consciously develop that aspect of yourself to learn to appreciate and/or to work harder in that dimension of life.
Sometimes we overvalue the element that we are least endowed with, sensing it as a lack within ourselves, but more often we neglect or ignore it. The qualities described below will be reiterated and explained in more detail in the following chapters.
You have two strong impulses which are somewhat at odds with one another but when blended can be highly creative and productive. On the one hand, there is the dreamer, the gambler, the idealist, the optimist who is full of hopeful confidence, spark, and creative energy. This is the side of you that believes in magic and extraordinary possibilities. Equally strong, however, is the conservative, practical, adult side which seeks security and stability, and which needs to be productive in a concrete way.
Having both of these urges can lead to some internal predicaments, such as: Should I take the safe, well traveled path which offers me security or one which is unpredictable but which offers more freedom and adventure? Is there a way for me to live my dreams rather than simply wish and hope and fantasize about them? Can I bring my dreams to fruition without compromising too much for the sake of the market place? Can I be an idealist who is effective in the everyday mundane world? How can I express myself freely as an individual, while also being responsible and taking care of practical obligations and necessities? Should I be generous, or careful and conservative? Should I play (and be more of a child) or work?
If you give up one side of the equation (for instance, opting for security at the expense of your creativity or your ideals, or choosing to spend most of your time playing and enjoying your own creative pursuits without making any tangible contribution to the world), you will feel unbalanced and unhappy.
Your challenge is to learn to somehow have the best of both worlds - to have an inspiration or ideal to aim for and to do something tangible with it. Or, put another way, to bring play and creativity and passion into your work. Your initiative, confidence and faith combined with your practicality would make you quite successful in business especially one of your own.
You have difficulty dealing with your own and others' emotions. Feelings and the emotional reality of a situation are often ignored or discounted by you and you may thus seem insensitive or uncaring to others. Deep emotional rapport, empathy, compassion, and sensitivity to the feelings of others is something that you need to develop, and will be in more evidence later in life rather than in your youth.
Though you may appear emotionally self-sufficient or above it all, your denied feelings can result in physical problems, so it is wise and important for you to learn to acknowledge and express all of your emotions.
You may also find that you crave a great deal of liquid, or to live near bodies of water, as a way to gain balance.

Chapter 2: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others
The following is a description of your basic stance towards life, the way others see you, the way you come across, the face you show to the world. In Chapter 3 you will read about the "The Inner You: Your Real Motivation", which describes the kind of person you are at heart and where your true priorities lie. Read this chapter and the next one and compare them - there may be significant differences between them, in which case "the inner you" may not shine through and others are in for some surprises when they get to know you at a more than superficial level. This chapter describes the costume you wear, your role in life, while Chapter 3 talks about the real person inside the costume.
Modest, unobtrusive, and often rather quiet or shy, you are a person who is content to be in the background or to serve as an assistant, in the supporting role rather than in the lead. You are quite humble in your own assessment of yourself; you seek perfection, with a tendency to be overly self-critical. No matter how well you do something, you always see the flaws in it and how it could be improved. Often you will simply refuse to attempt something because you feel you cannot meet your own high standards.
You have an eye for detail and get upset when something is not done just so, usually something others consider rather inconsequential or trivial. You are hard to please and your relationships with others may suffer because of this. Behind your quiet, unassuming, rather modest front (described in the previous chapter) you are apt to harbor some not-so-modest goals and ambitions in life. Materially (or in other ways) you are much more aspiring than you may seem, and getting to the top academically or professionally is really important to you.
Serious, disciplined, and quietly ambitious, you are driven to prove yourself and to achieve material accomplishments and success. Your work, your position in the world, and your contributions to society are very important to you. You will persevere through enormous hardship and frustration in order to reach a goal you have set for yourself, and you often sacrifice much in the area of personal relationships and home life in order to do so.
You have a thoughtful, quiet, and self-contained disposition and do not readily show your inner feelings and needs. You seem to be always in control, capable, efficient, and strong. You are often the person in the family or group who is given more responsibility (and more work) than the others. You possess vision and foresight, and your mind is often occupied with big ideas, plans, and goals for the future. You are interested in what is possible and what is on the horizon, rather than what has already been done. The study of philosophy, religion, politics, or education is of interest to you, and you are more concerned with theories and concepts than with specific applications. Warm, loving, and generous in your affections, you inspire tremendous devotion and loyalty in your loved ones. This is good, since you would never settle for anything less! You want to be adored and worshipped like the king or queen that you feel you are, and it is difficult for anyone to resist the warmth and attention you lavish on those you care about. You have a great deal of pride and need to be recognized and appreciated. The way to really hurt your feelings is to ignore you. You are genuine, sincere, and have a strong sense of personal integrity. You hate emotional games and dishonesty.

Chapter 6: Drive and Ambition: How You Achieve Your Goals
You have a warrior's attitude - decisive, courageous, and bold. You tend to always want to DO something, even when waiting for an appropriate time or not doing something (simply letting things alone to resolve themselves) would actually be more efficient and effective. You absolutely cannot tolerate being passive or even patient about getting what you want. You feel that it is up to you to take the initiative and you go after your goal or desire very aggressively.
You are also self-reliant, do not depend on others to do things for you or help you along, and you are often irritated when other people offer advice or direction. Cooperation rarely comes easily to you. You are willful and can be quite oblivious to others' desires or feelings when you are pursuing something you want. You are highly competitive, enjoy a challenge or a good fight, and may be downright pugnacious at times. Chapter 7: Growth and Expansion: Areas That You Enjoy
You believe strongly in the power of positivity and in each individual's ability to make life anything desired through one's own initiative and effort. The more you rely on yourself, the better you feel, and you find it difficult to ask for or accept outside help. The joy of competing (and especially winning!) runs deep in you.
You are successful in dealing with other people's money or material assets, either through your work or by combining and sharing what you have with someone else (marriage or business partner). An "inheritance" (either material or psychological) which comes through your spouse or other close partner is likely to benefit you immensely.

Chapter 8: Areas That Challenge You Or Are Difficult For You
You take your personal relationships so seriously that they may seem more like work, constant effort, and compromise, rather than a free and enjoyable sharing. You may feel that relationships in general require more of you than they are worth, and you enter into any close relationship cautiously and conscientiously. You also fear entrapment in close relationships.
Your fears revolve around money and material security, and you work very hard to ensure that your assets are solid. You may be very conservative, even stingy, with your money because you are afraid there won't be enough. You may turn this fear around and become very shrewd about investments and financial matters.
You tend to seesaw between hope, optimism, and faith versus doubt and oppression by limitations and practical realities. You need to overcome impatience and restlessness in order to achieve your dreams and desires for a better life.

behavior which you instinctively and habitually revert to when under stress - a
mostly unconscious process and one which you are apt to overdo because it is so

Areas Where You Are Creative, Unique, Unstable, or Compulsive
You grasp new concepts quickly and are interested in new technologies, discoveries, and innovations. Unconventional ideas and creative, original approaches to problems are very attractive to you also. You are easily bored and may have trouble concentrating on one idea or task at a time. You have an inventive mind.
You are a very idealistic person, and you want to see your ideals, hopes, and dreams made concrete and real in the everyday world. You are driven to put your ideals into action.
When young you may be rather aimless or confused about your place in the world. In early adult life it is likely that you struggle to find ways to express your imagination, fantasies, and ideals in your career. Chapter 10: Generational Influences: Your Age Group
In this chapter we will discuss characteristics and traits of your generation. Of course, you may not share all of the characteristics of your generation, but you are greatly affected by the tone that is set by your generation.
The first topic is "The Subconscious and Emotional Drive of Your Age Group". In this section we will describe a deeply felt urge, even compulsion, of your age group. This deeply felt drive comes to the surface with great force and power, and consequently leaves in its wake considerable upheaval and change. The second topic is "The Ideals and Illusions of Your Age Group", that describes the dreams, fantasies, and spiritual aspirations of your age group. The third and last topic is "What is New and Different in Your Age Group", which describes areas in which your age group tends to be innovative, inventive, unusual, and also where it may be unstable and unreliable.
The characteristics described below may affect a group of people for anywhere from a few years to about 30 years. There are one or more different astrological factors described in each of the three sections below.
The Subconscious and Emotional Drive of Your Age Group
You are part of a 30 year group of people who have a lighthearted and carefree attitude towards life. Your subconscious and emotional needs are not as great and not as difficult as other generations. The Ideals and Illusions of Your Age Group
You are part of a 14 year group of people that have a very active imagination. Your age group has a great interest in poetry and fiction, and some of the world's most creative and imaginative poets and writers are members of your generation. Your age group has a great curiosity about psychic phenomena, astrology, and other metaphysical sciences. Your generation also takes a rather intellectual, nonemotional attitude towards religion, and is quick to see logical flaws in religious doctrines.
While you may be interested in and even prone to experiencing unusual, heightened states of consciousness, paranormal phenomena, and the like, you are also rather uneasy and confused by such. Ungrounded idealism or "fanciful notions" are rejected by your generation for the most part.
The entire generation to which you belong has tremendous opportunities for spiritual rebirth and awakening. This will not be forced upon you or precipitated by unavoidable events, rather it comes from an inner yearning and a natural propensity to seek the depths.
