Introduction
The report that you are about to read is a first step in decoding the symbolic
language of your birth chart. It explains the raw materials that you have been
given for building a life. It outlines how the overall shape of your chart
reflects the overall shape of your personality, what your greatest challenges
are likely to be, the strengths you have been given to meet these challenges,
and the main arenas you are given for playing out your life’s drama.
In this report you may notice certain places where the information seems to be contradictory. This is to be expected, because people are complex. For example, in some situations we are shy and in others, aggressive. When you see repeated patterns, though, take special note: these are apt to be the dominant themes in your life.

The Main Emphasis in Your Chart
The general distribution of planets around you at your birth is one of the
things that shows the overall shape of your personality. Before taking a
closer look at the details, let’s stand back for a moment to see whether
your chart contains any obvious emphasis in a sign, group of signs, or other
division of the horoscope wheel.
Most planets are below the horizon.
Your personal sense of identity is very important to you. Who you are and
where you have come from are constant sources of interest to you. Your
understanding of your cultural heritage and family roots will help you to
determine your direction and goals in life. You feel that answers to important
questions can best be found within, rather than in the outer world or in a
relationship. Self-awareness and self-composure allow you to be self-assured
in your career and relationships.
Most planets are in the western half of the chart.
You love interacting with others, and delight in experiencing life in a social
setting. The challenge of working out the intricacies and problems posed in
relationships gives you a feeling of enormous satisfaction, especially when
things work out in a positive manner. To be sure, seeing life through the eyes
of others is a rare gift. Just take care that someone else’s personality
does not dominate you in such a way that you cannot grow and express your own
self.
There are many planets in Fire signs.
With many planets in either Aries, Leo or Sagittarius, you are likely to be
one of the original self-starters. Passionate and full of strong feelings and
ideals, you do not need external stimuli to get you moving in new directions.
Drama is your mantra. Perceiving life as a game with high stakes, you are just
as passionate when you win as when you lose.
In many ways you act and feel as if the world revolves around you, and sometimes it does. You tend to dominate your sphere, and when you come across other Fire types you instantly like or dislike them with no feelings in-between.
You are devoted to your ideals and beliefs, and will play the game to the end, displaying your boundless enthusiasm no matter what the outcome. You despise static, unchanging and unyielding situations, and will put forth your best efforts to change them. With your courage, energy and dramatic flair, you can be an effective leader, and will be the first in line to explore uncharted regions.
Your tendency to act first and think later, however, may lead others to accuse you of insensitivity. Learn to be more aware of others’ feelings. Realize that your actions affect others’ lives in ways that you may not have considered. Remember to develop sensitivity and appraise situations intellectually before you act with your heart.
There are many planets in Cardinal signs.
Your strong emphasis in signs like Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn gives
you an ability to initiate things, whether they be actions, relationships or
projects. You do not care whether something has been done before: if it
interests you, you will attempt it. Though you tend to be sullen and unhappy
in the role of minion, you feel creative and fulfilled in positions of
leadership. Once projects are under way, however, you tend to lose interest.
It would be ideal to have someone to follow in your footsteps and complete the
details.
There is an unusual number of planets in Aries.
You are the quintessential free spirit and the ultimate pioneer. Extremely
willful, you must be first at all costs — even at the cost of others’
approval or feelings. If you do not moderate this tendency, you may find
yourself alone. Nevertheless, your enthusiasm and zest for life are
infectious. Others will probably let you have your own way as long as you don’t
go overboard. You teem with new ventures that you’d like to begin, and may
have to discipline yourself to finish them.
Aspects: Keys to Your Inner Drama
In your birth chart, the Sun, Moon and planets play the central role. They are
the actors in the drama, the moving figures on the stage, each with a
character of its own. How these characters relate to each other, whether and
how they clash or harmonize, whether they bring out each other’s best or
worst qualities, is shown by the aspects, or angles, between the planets.
Is the ongoing drama between two planets a continuing tension that periodically erupts into crises (conjunctions, oppositions and squares), a harmonious alliance where the two planets aid and abet each other (trines and sextiles), an uneasy truce full of ambiguities (certain other aspects in neither of these families), or simply indifference (no aspect at all)? Below you will see which pairs of planets are in aspect in your chart.
Each of the following sections lists the aspects in order of their general importance, with aspects involving the Sun, Moon and fast-moving planets coming first. You can get a further idea of their importance in your particular chart by going to the aspect table at the beginning of this report and finding the five or so aspects with the smallest number of degrees and minutes in the “The orb is” column.
Your Major Challenges
We start with your conjunctions, oppositions and squares because these tend to
point out the challenges that you have been set in life. Mose people
experience these aspects as problems, at least at first. Armed with awareness,
however, you can come to view these so-called “ hard” aspects as the
blessings that they really are. These are the forces that spur you forward.
When you face the challenges that these aspects pose, you grow in strength,
confidence, wisdom and maturity.
Moon opposite Mars
Your low flash point allows you to anger easily, and you often act and react
to situations so suddenly and unthinkingly that others become nervous just
being around you. You take such strong stands and are so argumentative that
you are likely to attract only those who are as aggressive and dogmatic as
yourself. Others who have more balanced views may make themselves scarce
rather than deal with your irritability and overabundant energy. Learning to
harness this raw gift of energy is your lifelong task. Possible outlets
include sports and other vigorous activities that are kept in check by rules.
Martial arts may be a way for you to tame these energies and turn them into a
real force for good.
Moon square Saturn
At your best, you are cool, calm, objective and practical. Conservative and
unemotional, you enjoy the rewards of maturity and increased responsibilities.
But often your detachment makes you feel lonely, isolated and discontented
with your lot in life. Your desire to be emotionally closer to people, and
your inability to do so, may fill you with self-doubt and feelings of
unworthiness, which in turn makes you want to withdraw even further. Try
to relax about this. Even if your emotional life is not as fast-paced as that
of others, you are a marvelous and worthy person with a solidity that is much
needed by the world.
Moon conjunct Ascendant
It is your great gift to be emotionally honest in your dealings with other
people. You project a genuineness and sincerity and caring attitude that
others trust and respect. You are generally very understanding and quite
sympathetic of the needs of others, thus setting them at their ease. Be sure
that you really do take advantage of this gift by not making unrealistic
emotional demands on others.
Moon square Midheaven
At times, you need a good kick in the butt to get you moving along toward some
kind of clearly defined life goal or career. You tend to be too passive and
too dependent on others to provide support and structure and direction in your
life. In early life you may have been overprotected by your mother or family
and may not have been given the opportunity to become self-reliant. As such,
it may take you a lot longer than others to grow up and stand on your own two
feet.
Mercury square Ascendant
You feel a great need to seek out others and to share your ideas with them.
Usually your thoughts and ideas are interesting enough to hold the attention
of others, but you have to learn to become as good a listener as you are a
talker. Don’t try to hog the whole conversation all the time, or you will
drive people away from you, which is the opposite of what you intend. Take a
breath once in a while, and let others talk. You will be surprised to find
that they are almost as interesting as you are.
Venus square Uranus
Your relationships do not seem to last very long and that bothers you. It’s
not that you are incapable of caring deeply, the problem is that you have a
relatively short attention span. You need to feel that you can leave a
relationship at the drop of a hat in order to feel comfortable. You must
realize that it is unrealistic to expect others to be able to grant you this
much freedom easily. You may appear to be undependable and irresponsible, but
it may just be the best thing for all concerned if you do not try to hang on
to relationships that have outlived their time or usefulness.
Mars square Saturn
Although you usually have the ability to live your life in a strict,
comfortable routine, at times you never seem to be able to do anything right.
The choices you make at these times tend to be incorrect or inappropriate and
produce seemingly impenetrable barriers for you. This tends to frustrate you
and make you angry, but you find it difficult to release the anger and go
around steaming inside all the time. If you continue a pattern like this, only
negative things can happen, leaving you feeling bitter, unworthy and
incompetent. Hard though it will be to do, you must do something that will
break this pattern. Explore new and different places on foot or go on
vacation. Get some new input to distract you from your problems and then you
will have a fresh perspective on things.
Mars conjunct Descendant
Your tendency to act first and think later causes more problems than it solves
for you. Your strong will would be made even more effective if you could only
learn to cooperate with others and combine your efforts with theirs toward a
common goal. You need others in order to function properly, even though you
might think that you can go it alone. It will be up to you whether you choose
to view them as worthy companions deserving of respect or as constant
opponents fighting over the same turf. Not everyone is a threat to whatever
you hold near and dear. Mutual respect is much better than constant bickering.
Mars square Midheaven
Your competitiveness and abundant energy usually serve you well, but you tend
to be easily distracted from your goal by quarrels and disagreements with
others. You tend to feel that you have been personally insulted should anyone
challenge you and you feel that you have to defend yourself. Try not to be
such an egotist. Learn to respect the opinions of others, even if they are
contrary to your own — find some constructive way to prove that you are
right.
Jupiter opposite Neptune
Although your intentions are usually noble in the extreme, your grand designs
and plans rarely pan out, usually because they were not grounded in the
reality of the situation. The minor, practical details tend to escape you.
This is not to question your idealism or sensitivity, which are both
abundantly in evidence. It is just to suggest that you lower your expectations
a bit. Don’t try to solve all the world’s problems at one fell swoop. Be
more practical, if you can. If you compromise your ideals a bit, you may be
able to bring most of them to actuality
Jupiter conjunct Midheaven
You have a strong drive to be successful and to make your mark in the world.
At times, this drive seems to be insatiable, and you gleefully keep adding to
your personal empire. You are saved by your high standards of conduct. If you
can maintain your sense of honor, your unblemished integrity and your
fair-mindedness, you are likely to receive many personal honors in your life
and will indeed be an asset to your community.
Jupiter conjunct Chiron
Generous and hospitable, you have strong social skills and an ability to put
people at ease. If your confidence is challenged and you lose belief in
yourself, though, you may fill the gap with destructive habits like eating,
drinking or spending too much. Once your confidence is renewed, you can use
your skills as a speaker, writer or teacher to instruct and help others. You
truly like people, and know how to be diplomatic both in giving to others and
in getting what you want.
Saturn conjunct Midheaven
This position makes Saturn a major keynote in your chart. Once you have
decided on a life direction (or indeed anything that you consider important),
you will pursue it in a systematic, disciplined and orderly fashion until you
have achieved your goal. You are a perfectionist and a respected craftsman,
and have the ability to focus your attention and to work long and hard on a
given task. This makes you an ideal administrator for an ongoing project.
Uranus opposite Pluto
You are committed to maintaining your own freedom at all costs, but there are
changes in the basic fabric of society that threaten your freewheeling
lifestyle. This is very upsetting to you, causing you to be fearful and
insecure. You must learn to adapt and not rail at what must be. Ultimately you
will probably approve of the changes being made, no matter how unsettling and
inconvenient they may seem to be at the time.
Chiron opposite Neptune
To avoid dealing with reality, you may have spent many childhood hours
daydreaming, or inventing imaginary friends. Living in a fantasy world
probably helped you to escape unpleasant or emotionally abusive family
situations. Lacking coping skills and the ability to concentrate, you may find
it difficult to hold down a steady job or handle finances. You may find that
meditation or visualization exercises have an extremely positive effect on
your powers of concentration and your ability to stick to one activity.
Your Sustaining Strengths
Trines and sextiles tend to work with a natural harmony that calls for little
effort on your part. They show the things that you just seem naturally good
at. Usually they point to the more positive parts of your nature, and act as
support that you can call on in difficult times.
Because these aspects are so comfortable, they are not likely to push you to expand your limits or cause you to change. It is actually helpful to have a balance of hard aspects (like oppositions and squares) to stimulate you to grow, and soft aspects (trines and sextiles) to ease your passage and provide places to rest.
If you are blessed with a predominance of trines and sextiles, your life may tend to be placid and your nature serene. If so, remember that the world around you is probably sorely in need of these qualities that are yours to bestow.
Sun trine Moon
Things go smoothly for you. You seem to have an uncanny knack of being able to
avoid the stresses, strains and obstacles that plague most people. You accept
and enjoy the balance and placidity of your lifestyle and others envy you and
consider you to be truly lucky. The negative side of this is that you are
rarely challenged and have an inclination to drift through life, never growing
or evolving. Try to make it a point to seek out new experiences and variety,
especially when you are beginning to feel a bit bored.
Sun sextile Mars
Physically, you are full of vital energy and, for the most part, are quite
coordinated. As such, you need to get as much exercise as you can, feeling
more comfortable when you are moving around rather than when you are idle. You
are very competitive and love to have something or someone to push against.
Aggressive and courageous, you have excellent leadership credentials.
Sun trine Uranus
You must be free and independent at all costs. You will abandon any situation
that becomes stagnant and unoriginal, be it a job, a relationship, or a
neighborhood. This attitude may force you to live the life of a rolling stone,
which can play havoc with the attempt to be a part of a settled family
situation. You need to try to structure your life in such a way that you can
come and go as you please and not have to feel guilty about anything. Since
your great gift is the ability to find unique and creative ways to do things,
this is a life-long challenge that you will enjoy.
Moon trine Uranus
Your fiercely independent lifestyle is more important to you than settling
down to any sort of rigid routine. You are known for demanding the right to do
whatever you want whenever you want to. This leads you to at times be so rash
and impulsive that you do things that you later regret. You fear close,
intense emotional involvement. For you, a commitment involves giving others
the freedom to be themselves at all times — and you usually accomplish this
by pushing them away from you.
Moon sextile Pluto
Emotionally your life is deep, intense and complicated and you prefer it that
way. You despise casual relationships, demanding that your partners be as
totally involved with you as you are with them. You love to analyze your own
emotional reactions and motivations. As such, you often push things to the
breaking point in order to test yourself and your partner. As you learn more
about yourself, you become more content — for you, evolution and change is
what life is all about.
Mercury trine North Node
You are the ideal person to set up important social and business connections
between people. Your organizational ability is superb, and you have the tact
and intuition to know just the right time to make plans go forward
successfully. As such, you could make a perfect host, hostess, secretary or
liaison person. Always willing to sacrifice your own comfort for the sake of
group, you make an excellent companion, too. You delight in contributing time
and energy to religious, charitable or political events, and your community
spirit is high.
Venus trine Jupiter
You are attracted to a life of comfort and luxury. If you are not blessed with
the means to support such a lifestyle, you may find yourself continually
waking up to the negative results of your innate profligacy — too many
bills, problems with overweight, etc. Attempts at self-control are of course
in order, but do not feel too badly if they are not always successful. You are
not by nature aggressive or cautious, but you have a charm and grace that
others find very attractive. Your refined aesthetic taste will allow you to be
productive in the arts if you are so inclined.
Venus trine Saturn
Restrained and cautious in giving and receiving affection, at times you are so
shy that you would rather not interact at all. It is difficult for you to make
a commitment to another because you are so aware of the duties and obligations
that will be necessary. Try to relax more — “fun” is not a dirty word.
Friendships once made will last the test of time because your loyalty will
prove to be constant and true.
Venus trine Midheaven
You are a truly loving, warm and generous person. This makes you well liked by
all. Since you do not go out of your way to push yourself forward in the
world, others tend to look out for your interests. You prefer peace and
harmony so much that you will often compromise your position just so that
there is no tension around you. Be careful of this tendency because, if it
becomes habitual, you can soon lose all of your self- respect and be forever
at the mercy of those with whom you associate.
Mars sextile Uranus
You can be counted on to do the unexpected, especially if you think that
others would find it shocking or offbeat. At your best, your free-spirited,
rebellious attitude toward things brings a breath of fresh air to stale,
hackneyed situations. At your worst, your restlessness and daring can cause
clashes with authority figures (which you enjoy immensely).
Mars trine Pluto
You love a challenge. The worst thing opponents can say to you is that they
are unbeatable or that something is impossible. For you, the difficult is
routine, and the impossible just takes a little longer. You have the ability
to focus your considerable energies on the job at hand, and you relentlessly
pursue your goals. You are so success-driven that at times you will do
anything, even to the extent of using brutal or underhanded tactics, to get
what you want. To get the respect that you desire, you may need to learn some
tact and self-control.
Uranus trine Ascendant
You are fascinated by other people, especially those who are unconventional or
different in some manner. You are attracted to inventive and unusual types
because they stimulate your boundless curiosity. Friendships and relationships
rarely are long-lasting for you because of your strong need to be independent
and your discomfort at being intimate with another. You may pick up the
reputation for being unreliable or, more seriously, for getting constantly
into trouble with authority figures.
Pluto sextile Ascendant
You have a magnetically attractive personality. Others view you as someone
with the ability and power and personal resources to accomplish just about
anything that you please. And indeed you do have the required will and drive
to be successful. Because like sometimes attracts like, you also find that you
are attracted to those who are powerful and influential.
Rounding Out the Picture
Two other families of so-called “minor” aspects add yet more information
about the way the planets relate to each other in your chart. Semisquares and
sesquares (also known as sesquiquadrates) share the dynamic, crisis-prone
nature of the square but need to be quite exact in order to be felt.
Semisextiles and quincunxes connect signs that are totally unrelated to each other. They can have an odd, unsettling quality, indicating problems or issues that it’s hard to get a grip on. They are like interesting puzzles that call for a creative solution.
Sun quincunx Saturn
Your conscience always seems to be working overtime, and this annoys you a
great deal. It seems that you can never allow yourself to do anything that
seems in the slightest frivolous without feeling enormous pangs of guilt. This
can make you feel quite uncomfortable and then you become withdrawn and
frustrated, preferring not to act at all rather than compromise your high
standards of conduct. When this happens, look around you. The action that you
are worried about is probably not very daring when compared to what others do.
Let yourself have a little fling once in a while — savor the forbidden fruit
and then fall back into your usual pattern.
Sun quincunx Midheaven
You fully realize that it would be much more helpful to your career and life
direction if you were not always so distracted by other interests. Because all
that is around you seems so varied and fascinating, it is difficult for you to
focus your creative energies on getting ahead in the world. Learn to relax
more. It’s not that you cannot properly motivate yourself, it’s just that
you will probably take longer to reach your goals than most others. The
positive side of this is that you will become much more well-rounded along the
way.
Mercury semisquare Venus
You have the gift of communicating in a pleasing and, at times, seductive
manner. Others are attracted to you because of your gracious and congenial
attitude. Be careful always to use this gift with the highest standards of
integrity, and do not be tempted to try to get ahead in the world simply by
using flattery or cajolery.
Jupiter semisquare North Node
For the most part, you’re very lucky indeed in your choice of friends and
associates. Throughout your life you’ll come into contact with those who are
wealthy and powerful and can be of assistance to you. The challenge for you is
to make yourself worthy of the opportunities that you’ll receive. If you
take things for granted and don’t go out of your way to make the extra
effort necessary to warrant being singled out for certain favors, others will
soon start ignoring your very real needs and look elsewhere for others more
worthy. Learn to be selfless in giving back to others what has been given to
you. Stay high-minded and don’t use people for your own petty ends.
Saturn semisextile Uranus
There is an ongoing tension in your life. You are very aware of the need to
live a structured, disciplined lifestyle in order to accomplish your goals.
But you also have the opposite and contrary need to be completely free and
unrestricted in your movements. This, of course, leads at times to your being
very irritable and rebellious and being forced to deal against your will with
authority figures. The reverse is also true in that you try to bottle up your
rebelliousness and then feel that you are not being true to yourself. The
answer to this dilemma will come only after long experience and frustration
— you must try to maintain a middle course between these two extremes. Allow
yourself the freedom to vent steam once in a while, but stick to your
long-range goals nevertheless.
Uranus semisextile Midheaven
You are aware of the need to cooperate with the authority figures in your
life, especially with your bosses and, earlier in your life, with your parents
and teachers. But you have such a strong and stubbornly independent streak
that you are often in hot water because of your actions. You see this
happening and it bothers you because you would like to be able to conform like
everyone else and you know that your actions are hurting your chances of
moving ahead in life. You must learn that you have to forge your own
particular path in life if you would be comfortable with yourself. Have
traditional goals, but go about attaining them your own way.
Pluto quincunx North Node
The very palpable tension that seems to occur as you attempt to interact with
others — even with quite casual acquaintances — is a continuing concern
for you. You feel frustrated and guilty when you see yourself subtly goading
people into opposing you, even over quite trivial matters. You should try to
remember that not everyone enjoys living life at the same high level of
intensity as you do — your attempts to push them closer to the edge (for
their own good, of course) might just not be appreciated. Learn to live and
let live. And make sure that others are willing participants when you turn up
the intensity level. If you can do this, there won’t be any hurt feelings.
North Node quincunx Ascendant
At times you notice a significant strain in your relationships with those in
your home environment or with your colleagues on the job. When you feel that
your privacy has been threatened, you often lash out at those you care for
most — and then you prove to be quite difficult to be around. You notice
this and it bothers you deeply, because you don’t know how to deal with it
and you suspect that you are the cause of the tension around you. One sure
thing that you can do is to make sure that you have a completely private place
of your own to which you can retreat when things get edgy — and use it! That
should allow you enough time to gather yourself together and recharge your
batteries — and become more sociable.
Houses: Bringing the Planets Down to Earth
The positions of the planets in the zodiac, and the aspects between the
planets, are nearly the same for everyone born on a given day. But the houses
reflect how the planets were arranged around you and you alone, at a given
hour and minute, and at a given place on Earth. Houses therefore personalize
the planets, showing how they relate to your own particular life.
The meanings of the twelve houses echo those of the twelve zodiacal signs, but are more specific and concrete. For example, the second sign, Taurus, is much concerned with the material world, whereas the second house deals with your actual possessions: how you feel about them, and how you acquire them.
The house delineations that follow show how the affairs of each house are flavored by the sign that lies on its cusp. Since houses are sometimes larger than signs, a house may also have one or more signs completely enclosed or “intercepted” within it, in which case you will find additional material about the intercepted signs in a house. Most important, you will learn below in what areas of life the planets — the main actors in your drama — are disposed to be most active, and how the way each planet operates is influenced by both its house and its sign.
House 1: Your Interface with the World
The first house focuses on the basic equipment that you have been given for
interacting with the world: your body and your physical constitution, your
face, your appearance, your personality, mannerisms and the way you present
yourself. It may not be how you see yourself, but it is how others tend to
perceive you, and you should be aware that it has an important effect on how
you are accepted in social situations. Planets in the first house tend to be
strong and “out-front,” especially when they are close to (that is,
conjunct) your Ascendant.
Aries on the First
Self-confident, ambitious and passionate, you radiate positive energy. You are
a free spirit and must be first at everything you do. Brimming with energy and
self-assertion, you want to do things your way. Even though you may feel calm
and serene on the inside, you certainly do not project this attitude. You want
to do everything full-tilt, at a hundred miles an hour. A great competitor,
but a poor cooperator, you must learn how to lose more gracefully. You are
blunt and direct, and at times can be unfeeling and tactless, especially if
anyone offers you any resistance. You fight for your beliefs, but your
tendency to act first and think later often causes you grief.
No planets in the First
You have no planets in the first house, which means that the way that others
regard you is not usually a major issue for you. Look to the house position of
the Sun, Mars and Saturn to learn how your sense of personal identity is
integrated into your overall character.
House 2: What You Own and Value
The second house goes a step outward from your own person and has to do with
resources that you possess, including money. It shows your attitude toward
what you own or would like to own: what you crave and covet, what you most
value, how you go about getting it, how you take care of it, and whether or
not you hang on to it. By extension, it can also indicate your sense of
values: not just material things but also the attitudes and ideas that you
hold dear.
Taurus on the Second
You are known for being practical and conservative when it comes to financial
matters. Early in life you decided that it would only be worthwhile to own
things of high quality, and that you would rather do without than spend money
on something you judge to be inferior. The things you most value are tangible
and solid, pleasing to the senses and conducive to comfort. And in your life
you value doing useful things that have a practical, immediately realizable
purpose. You invest for security, taking a buy-and-hold strategy and
preferring high-quality stocks and bonds, preferably in companies that produce
something concrete and useful. If you venture into futures trading, you
stick with a few commodities you know well, solid things like wheat and, of
course, cattle. If you are extremely Taurean, however, all these paper
transactions may still seem too flimsy to you. You may feel more comfortable
investing in coins, collectibles or real estate.
Pluto in the Second
For you, material resources are directly equated with power and opportunity.
Money is very, very important to you because you recognize that it is the key
to getting what you want out of life. Once you have decided that you need
something, you will work long and hard for it, not stopping until you have
reached your goal. You are so aware of the relationship between the importance
of your possessions and your present and future security and happiness that
you demand complete and total control over them and do not willingly share
them.
Pluto in Gemini
You entire generation was born into a period of far-reaching and profound
breakthroughs in the ability of people to communicate with each other. During
one such period, at the turn of the twentieth century, the appearance of the
telephone, the automobile and air travel ushered in the global village.
House 3: Your Immediate Surroundings
Going a step further out from your own body and possessions, the third house
has to do with your immediate surroundings and how you interact with them. The
first “social” house, it describes brothers and sisters, neighbors and
anyone who just happens to be near you on a daily basis. It also describes
daily communication and transportation: letters, phone calls and emails, and
routine journeys such as commuting to shopping, school or work. The first “mental”
house, it governs early education and basic skills training, paving the way
for higher education in the ninth house which is directly opposite it in the
chart.
Gemini on the Third
You are full of nervous energy, especially mental energy. Your mind is active
and alert, constantly whirling from one fascinating idea to another. You love
to learn things and you spend much time reading and traveling about and asking
questions. But your learning is often casual and superficial because you
rarely have the self-discipline and intensity to dig down to the deeper levels
of any subject. Your daily activities and routines are a hubbub of constant
hustling and bustling as you burn off your energy. Your speech is bubbling and
at times babbling as you try to get more than one thought at a time out of
your mouth. A great talker, but not a great listener — once you have been
mentally stimulated, you are off to the races again, and it becomes hard for
others to get in a word edgewise.
Neptune in the Third
Your rich and vivid imagination can be used creatively in writing or speaking
if you are so inclined. You are so trusting in the power of your inner visions
that at times you confuse the truth with what you want to believe. Be careful
not to embroider or distort the truth to fit your own needs. You are so
idealistic, and you accept so many things on faith, especially if the ideas
are packaged in such a way that they appeal to your imagination, that you are
often easily conned by others who are less scrupulous than you are. So be
careful when taking advice from others — always get a second or third
opinion before taking any action.
Neptune in Cancer
You, and your entire generation, tend to over-idealize the home, the past and
other traditional values. This fosters isolationism and protectionism in the
political sense. One’s zeal to bring one’s own racial or cultural heritage
to the forefront may become subject to the same excesses as those of the
ultra-nationalist movements of the 1920’s through the 1940’s, unless the
rights of individuals and dissidents are fiercely protected as well.
House 4: Where You Come From
Being at the very bottom of the wheel, the fourth house is both where you
originate and where you come to rest. As such, it describes your parents and
ancestral background, and later the home or protected space into which you
retreat each day for nourishment and sleep. A deeply personal house, the
fourth is concerned with security and peace of mind, the safety of loved ones,
and how you care for others and yourself. The place of your roots and the
earth beneath your feet, the fourth house rules the house or apartment where
you live and also real estate in general. In your trajectory through life, the
fourth house shows your origins and where you are coming from, just as the
tenth house and Midheaven describe your career and where you aim to go.
Cancer on the Fourth
You are very sentimental about your mother (or the person who played that role
for you as a child), your home, your family and your cultural background. You
fondly remember those times when you felt most secure and comfortable and
loved. You will spend much time and effort trying to recreate those feelings
— security and peace of mind are paramount for you. When you are at your
best, you willingly provide warmth and comfort to all, but, at your worst, you
are moody and unpredictable and very demanding that others pay attention to
you.
Mercury in the Fourth
You love to be surrounded by books that help you to develop your mind. Your
interest in history stems from your deep need to understand the roots and
origins of your family, region, country and culture. Extremely subjective and
introspective, you are fascinated with your own mind and how it works. You
want to understand how you think and feel and how others think and feel, too.
At times, you get so wrapped up in yourself that you find it hard to honor
another person’s point of view.
Mercury in Cancer
You have an excellent memory, especially about things to which you have formed
an emotional bond. The beliefs and traditions of your family and culture are
very important to you. You prefer ideas that are known and familiar, and
therefore tend to dislike fads or radical ideas. Your emotions tend to rule
your thought processes, making it difficult to see life objectively.
Especially when you are emotionally shaken, your thinking becomes unclear.
Therefore, try not to make major decisions when you are upset.
House 5: Playtime
After being nurtured and restored in the fourth house, you are refreshed and
full of energy for play and creative pursuits. Replenished by dreams, you have
creative ideas. Nurtured by your parents, you are ready to have your own
children. Fresh from the security of home, you are ready to trust the universe
and take risks. For all these reasons, the fifth house traditionally rules the
child in you and the children around you, your own personal creativity and
self-expression, plays and amusements of all sorts, gambling and speculation,
and courtship, love affairs and romance. This is an outgoing house, but it is
still beneath the horizon, in the territory of your heart’s desires.
Leo on the Fifth
For you, life is a stage and you are at the center of that stage. You love the
grand gestures and lavish entertainments that you think life should have in
abundance. With this attitude toward fun and games, it will be very helpful if
you earn a six-figure salary or have inherited wealth, otherwise you will
always be pining for what is out of your reach. But you are quite resourceful
and can usually look like a million bucks even if you only have modest means.
Very romantic when in love, you delight in treating your lover to the “good”
life and will try to impress him or her with expensive gifts and favors —
and you expect the same treatment in return. You are very proud of your
children and love to show them off to your friends and associates.
Sun in the Fifth
You have a strong sense of who you are and tend to be proud of yourself. As
such, you enjoy being a bit of a showoff — you always seem to be on a stage
performing your best role — you. You are very competitive and have lots and
lots of energy. You are proud, honest, direct and very, very playful. Quite
creative, the products of your creativity will provide a great amount of
personal satisfaction for you — the children of your mind or body (or both)
will occupy much of your time and energy. You also like to take risks just for
the fun of it. Watch out that you do not become too boorish or childish in
your demand to be noticed by others.
Sun in Leo
More than a bit of a showoff, you love to be the center of attention. But
others do not usually mind because they tend to enjoy your genuine warmth and
affection. Very spirited and willful, proud and self-important at times, you
demand your own way. You are quite honest, however, and the respect of others
is very important to you. You never compromise yourself and you pursue your
goals with persistence and dedication. Your regal presence and demeanor draw
you to positions of leadership and authority. But beware of being overly
hardheaded, domineering, ostentatious or patronizing or you will lose the
goodwill and admiration that you enjoy. Very theatrical, you live life on a
grand scale wherever and whenever possible. Your strength and energy vitalizes
those who come in contact with you.
Venus in the Fifth
Pleasure and amusement are very important to you. Very playful, you enjoy
being entertained and you delight in receiving gifts — the more lavish and
opulent, the better. Because you are very sensual, pleasing and playing with
your lover provides you both with mutual delights. Your refined aesthetic
sensibility requires that your surroundings be gracious, elegant and
comfortable. Your tendency to think that it is your divine right to be
entertained and that all things should come to you can cause you to become
lazy and self- indulgent. Try not to be too selfish.
Venus in Virgo
You express your love and affection through selfless service to people or
causes. You have a tendency to underestimate yourself and doubt your
self-worth. This is very demeaning and should be avoided — learn to love
yourself as well as you do others. Your standards of perfection are very high
— you are attracted to relationships based on duty and responsibility. You
are supercritical of yourself and others and, at times, prefer to be alone
rather than deal with any imperfections in yourself or in those with whom you
might relate.
House 6: Taking Care of Business
After the candle-lit dinner comes the credit-card bill. Courtship is followed
by the nitty-gritty of married life: babies, diapers and saving up for
college. After your creative impulse comes the need to learn the technique of
actually making something. And if you overexpend your energy, you get health
problems. The sixth house rules taking care of business on an everyday level.
This includes your job, paying bills and keeping the house clean. It also
includes maintaining your body with medical checkups and a daily regimen of
nutrition and exercise. In the old books it ruled servants, and it can by
extension rule the way you offer service to others. It also ruled useful
animals, particularly small ones like cats, dogs, chickens and pigs. Today
this usually means small pets, which exist in the personal, intimate part of
your life that is signified by houses that lie below the horizon.
Virgo on the Sixth
You are a diligent, careful worker — an asset to any work place because you
are the one who has the patience to be sure that all the small but important
details are taken care of. Your patience allows you to do tasks that others
regard as drudgery. Your critical faculties are such that you are often
entrusted with analyzing, cataloging and categorizing things so that order and
efficiency can happen. Very prim and proper, you are fearful of doing anything
that might upset your health. As such, you watch your diet very closely and
are able to exert a seemingly superhuman amount of self-discipline in
controlling what you eat.
Mars in the Sixth
When motivated, you are a very hard worker. But you are not always willing to
cooperate. Your ego is too strong for that, and you would be much more
comfortable being the boss than being an employee. You can be very
disciplined, and you have very high standards of workmanship. If you do not
respect your superiors, however, there will be numerous ego conflicts. You
have the ability to work skillfully at metal work or with cutting instruments.
Try not to repress any feelings of anger or they will tend to surface as
illnesses.
Mars in Libra
You are very aware of the need to cooperate with others in order to further
any effort. You are usually willing to compromise with others, although you
can be quite competitive in a friendly way. Fair-minded and impartial, you are
able to sense injustice and wish to take corrective actions to make proper
compensations. You see both sides of issues and questions, but you tend to be
undecided or wavering when forced to make choices that might make you
vulnerable or unpopular.
House 7: Relating One-to-One
If you courted in the fifth house and woke up in the sixth yoked to another in
a daily routine, the seventh house gives you a chance to hammer out a
relationship of true equals. The goal is wedded bliss and a true sense of
relatedness, but along the way there may be fights as you each define your
individuality and establish your own territory. Not only is the seventh the
traditional house of marriage, it is also the house of open enemies, your
sparring partners in life. In general, since the first house is you yourself,
the seventh house, directly opposite, is the other person in a variety of
situations. Besides signifying a marriage or sparring partner, the seventh
house rules business partners, or those on the other side of a desk, such as
consultants, lawyers, therapists or astrologers.
Libra on the Seventh
You seek a partner who is cultured, refined and diplomatic. You appreciate the
tact and grace and admiration that another can bring to your life, precisely
because you tend to lack these qualities yourself. But, while for the most
part your mate will compromise and bow to your stronger will, do not be
surprised if he or she fights vigorously for rights that you carelessly
trample on. You enjoy the challenge of being able to provide the proper
setting for your partner (either in business or personal relationships). This
gives you an extra excuse to go out and conquer new territories. You attract
those with excellent judgment and common sense and should bow before them when
it comes to making important decisions that affect both of you.
North Node in the Seventh
You’re a very social person, so much so that you would rather be out
partying and generally interacting with others than staying at home alone.
Those you relate to, especially your spouse or business partner, will tend to
determine the type of lifestyle that you lead. Be careful not to carry your
other-oriented impulses too far though — you don’t want to become overly
dependent on someone else. If you do, you’ll feel totally lost should you be
parted from them for whatever reason. To feel properly balanced
psychologically, you need to realize that you have important personal and
private needs that must be met, at least once in a while.
North Node in Scorpio
You have a special aptitude for working by yourself, or with a like-minded
group of dedicated individuals. Once you’ve committed yourself to a person
or group or project, your loyalty and devotion are total until the group’s
goals have been realized. Not at all gregarious by nature, you’re
uncomfortable around strangers, greatly preferring to be in known and familiar
situations. Others may regard you as shy or eccentric, but those who know you
well are aware of the intense loyalty that you have to your friends.
House 8: Giving It All Away
Having achieved a relationship of equals in the seventh house, you are ready
to give up your separateness in the eighth, merging in sexual union and
becoming one on a deep emotional level. If the second house was about grasping
and possessing, the eighth is about sharing and letting go. While the second
rules your own money, the eighth rules how you deal with other people’s
money and how you pool resources. On a mundane level the eighth rules taxes,
but on a fundamental level it can rule giving up anything you value, including
your ego and even your body. In relaxing your grasp on what you find most
dear, you may find that you are really not as dependent on it as you thought.
In relinquishing, you achieve a new level of freedom, and feel lighter,
renewed and more alive. Related to all this, the eighth signifies mysteries
such as death and resurrection, magic and the occult, and the deep parts of
the psyche that are beyond our conscious grasp.
Scorpio on the Eighth
You have a deep fascination with sexual matters, or for any other process that
involves the more complex emotional reactions of humans. You do not make
commitments lightly, but, once you have done so, you become totally involved
with your partner. Your feelings are so complicated and strong and your sexual
urges so dominant and primal that you find it difficult to express them, even
with a loving and caring partner. You want to push both of you to the ultimate
so that you can experience the peaks of ecstasy that you sense are possible.
Although this may cause your romantic life to be full of various crises, you
will work very hard to resolve them because you do not want to lose the
relationship. With regard to investments, your tendency to hold back and to
exercise caution should serve you well as you wait for the precise moment to
make your move.
Uranus in the Eighth
The changes that come into your life usually occur suddenly and unexpectedly,
and you prefer it that way. Slow, evolutionary growth patterns make you
impatient and restless. You will go out of your way to put yourself into new
and unique situations so that your life will be constantly renewed and
refreshed you are unwilling merely to let nature take its course. Be very
careful — your tendency toward rash behavior makes you very accident-prone.
Uranus in Sagittarius
You, and most of your peers, have the tendency to think that all ideas,
customs and traditions from the past are outmoded and irrelevant. You are
attracted to radically new ideas, philosophies and religions that will,
hopefully, cause sweeping changes throughout the world.
House 9: Expanding Your Awareness
Approaching the highest point in the sky, the ninth house wafts you up and out
of your rut, giving you a broad and lofty view of the terrain beneath. Whereas
the third ruled basic schooling and short trips, the ninth rules higher
education and long-distance travel. It removes you from your everyday routine
so you can see the overall pattern, the overlooked connections between things.
It rules all-embracing concepts (such as your philosophy of life) and
institutions (like religion and law) that stand over society and keep it bound
together. It can also signify your teachers and mentors, your library, and all
else that broadens your outlook.
Sagittarius on the Ninth
You are attracted to optimistic and far-reaching philosophies of life.
Although you tend to be a bit conventional in your thinking, you are generally
broad-minded and open-minded enough to avoid any charges of intolerance.
Indeed, you are intellectually quite restless by nature and avidly keep
abreast of the latest trends in philosophy and metaphysics. Your knowledge is
so broad and your enthusiasm to share what you know is so sincere that you may
be attracted to conveying what you know to others as a teacher, especially
later in your life.
Jupiter in the Ninth
You are fascinated by anything that is foreign, new or exotic. Very curious by
nature, you love to travel in order to broaden your understanding of the
world. You are attracted to the wide-ranging issues that are posed by such
subjects as religion, philosophy and metaphysics. You want to understand the
overall, big picture and are rarely concerned with the everyday and (to you,
at least) minor details of living. Generally, you tend to be very tolerant and
accepting of those who are different from you.
Jupiter in Capricorn
You tend to feel that the only results that are worthwhile are the results
that are concrete and demonstrable. You distrust abstract solutions and
appreciate measurable achievements. An excellent organizer and planner, you
are optimistic as well as practical and realistic about what can and what
cannot happen. Very responsible, you consider it a personal weakness to be
wrong about anything. This makes you appropriately cautious. You are very
efficient but you tend to be cool and detached.
Saturn in the Ninth
Your life’s philosophy is one of caution and conservatism. You delight in
being able to carefully and thoroughly work out your life plan well in
advance. Everything you do is part of a highly detailed timetable, and you are
delighted when your development occurs right on schedule. Very systematic, you
work hard and diligently for your goals. Because your opinions tend to change
slowly, you may be prone to episodes of dogmatic, narrow-minded thinking.
Saturn in Capricorn
Very serious-minded and mature, you have the ability to take on
responsibilities and to carry out important duties. You can also be trusted to
be extremely practical and thrifty. A good organizer, you are the ideal one to
be counted on to take a clearly defined project through to its logical
conclusion. An achiever, you pride yourself on your ability to focus your
attention totally on some worthy goal and then attain it.
Chiron in the Ninth
An effective and influential teacher, you developed your own unusual outlook
on life at a very young age. A precocious but serious child, you may have been
admonished and teased for being “different.” A superior attitude could
have prevented you from cultivating lasting friendships. Your independent
streak and singular manner of self-expression will serve you well as a writer,
publisher, teacher or raconteur. Success will be forthcoming once you realize
that you are equal to, not better than, your peers. Always remember that
students are your very best teachers.
Chiron in Capricorn
Extreme shyness and a fear of being ostracized can make socializing difficult.
Extending yourself to others will help you form meaningful relationships.
Dutiful and desirous of always doing the right thing, you are serious,
ethical, and responsible to a fault. At times, you place your own needs on
hold in order to please others. You may have had a devastating loss early in
life. Don’t let fear of losing someone prevent you from experiencing the
joys of a meaningful relationship. The love you experience will make up for
past sorrows.
House 10: Your Public Self
If the fourth house showed your roots and where you came from, the tenth shows
what you are ultimately aiming at in life. Whereas the sixth shows your daily
job and how you make a living, the tenth signifies your career, your personal
contribution, your reputation and what you become known for. Some astrologers
also believe that the fourth house signifies one parent, and the tenth
signifies the other. The tenth-house parent is most likely the one who
prepares you for the world. The closer a planet is to the Midheaven, the more
likely that planet is to be the major significator of your life’s direction.
Capricorn on the Tenth
You have an incredibly strong need to succeed at whatever life goal you have
set for yourself. You feel that you absolutely must succeed, because you fear
failure. You therefore organize your life with an astounding degree of
thoroughness so that nothing can distract you. Your need to be thorough
usually comes at the expense of speed, making you a bit of a plodder. You are
the ideal person to supervise an ongoing task that must be executed with
precision. Because of your persistence, you are able to make real what for
others are only dreams .
No planets in the Tenth
You have no planets in the tenth house of your horoscope. This definitely does
not mean that you will not have an illustrious or satisfying career — or
that you will never be properly motivated to be a success in life. Far from
it, it means that these issues are not as important for you as they are for
many others. It may indicate that your career goals will be driven by
influences from outside of you, so pay close attention to positive
opportunities that are presented to you. Look to the house and aspects of
Saturn to get further information on where you are more likely to be
disciplined and organized in your life.
House 11: Your Circle of Acquaintances
The eleventh is the last house of relationships: not brothers, sisters and
neighbors who just happen to be around you, not one-to-one partners, but the
circle of friends and associates whom you actively choose. It shows the way
you make and keep friendships, the organizations you join, the networking you
do, and the general way you interact with groups. After you have established
yourself as an individual and learned to form personal relationships with
others, you are ready to think about the common good. This is why the eleventh
often signifies groups dedicated to social or other sorts of collective
improvement.
Aquarius on the Eleventh
You do not make friends quickly because you are wary of others getting too
close to you and making demands on your time. But, once you realize that the
other person shares similar interests with you, you will usually loosen up and
want to spend a lot of time with him or her. As a matter of fact, you are
quite comfortable with the “non-emotionally-involving” nature of
friendships and you will devote a great part of your time and energy to
spreading your circle of relationships. You like to function in group
structures, partly because of the anonymity they afford, and also because you
feel that you can be truly effective and that your efforts can actually bring
results that would be impossible otherwise.
No planets in the Eleventh
The eleventh house of your horoscope contains no planets. This does not mean
that you will never have friends or associates or that you will never be
active in groups that express your philosophy of life. It simply indicates
that these are not paramount issues for you. From time to time, influences
from outside you may cause you to become more active in these areas, but this
will be temporary rather than life-long.
House 12: The Hidden You
The twelfth house is where planets go just after they have risen. Here planets
are still wet behind the ears, blinking in the sunlight and unsteady on their
feet. Feeling completely vulnerable, planets in the twelfth tend to hide.
Their energies can become repressed and secretive, and sometimes they lurk as
complexes in the subconscious. This is why the twelfth is associated with
self-sabotage, with hidden enemies, and with prison and whatever else makes
you feel confined. The traditional association with hospitals and prisons
suggest that constructive ways of dealing with twelfth-house problems include
helping others who are similarly repressed or confined. Also, some with a
strong twelfth-house emphasis become successful as undercover workers or as
the power behind the throne.
Pisces on the Twelfth
There is a part of you that you try to suppress because it gives the lie to
your usual self-image. While you love to portray yourself as aggressive and
self-directed and in charge of your own life, you have a sentimental, feeling
and caring side that embarrasses you. You become confused and guilty when you
realize that certain situations might be better handled with care and
compassion rather than with your usual devil-may-care bravado. You must learn
to trust in your self-composure to the extent that you know that you can wear
your heart on your sleeve without giving up any of your vaunted independence.
Take the time to help others — it expands and ennobles your humanity and
takes nothing away from you.
Moon in the Twelfth
Although you are usually very helpful to others and sensitive to their needs,
you do not always trust them completely. You tend to feel that you will never
get the unrestricted emotional support that you need, perhaps due to some
unfortunate experience early on in life. You have to learn to accept the fact
that you are really all right. Be proud of yourself — you have many
wonderful, caring qualities.
Moon in Aries
High-spirited and courageous, you are a fighter when your emotions are
aroused. The degree of force and drive that you can bring to any effort
sometimes surprises others. You have hair-trigger reactions to specific
stimuli and tend to “let it all hang out.” You sometimes act before you
think and do things on the spur of the moment, and that sometimes gets you
into trouble. Your moods change quickly — you have quite a temper, but you
don’t hold grudges. Very independent, with an extremely strong and forceful
personality, you are known for being impulsive, careless, reckless, foolhardy,
rash and daring.
A Mirror of Your Uniqueness
This report is based on the position of the Sun, Moon and planets at the
moment of your birth, as seen from the point on Earth where you were born.
Such an arrangement of planets and stars will never be repeated in exactly the
same form. Like the genes that determine your body and temperament, your
astrological chart is made up of the same basic parts that other humans have,
but the arrangement of these parts is uniquely your own.
You could think of your birth moment as a seed that contains the potential for how you will unfold. The arrangement of the planets at your birth does not, however, cause your body structure and temperament in the way that the patterning of your DNA causes it. Instead, the planetary positions at your birth employ the language of symbols to mirror who you are. Like a mirror, your chart enables you to see yourself from outside yourself, and it therefore extends your point of view.
To use a different analogy, your chart shows the deck you’ve been dealt, the raw materials you are given from which to fashion a life. Nobody’s perfect: we are all given our special problems to solve and our special strengths and beauties. In knowing what you have to work with, you will be better able to make use of your gifts, fill in (or at least be comfortable about) what you lack, and grow in the life directions that are right for you and you alone.
Instead of assuming that there is one norm for everyone, astrology attempts to show the special pattern that is right for you. In doing so, it can give you clues as to how you can more fully and consciously fill the unique role that you have been given in this lifetime, and enrich the world with the gifts that only you can bestow.
