Thanks to Nick Dagan Best for alerting us to this error!
Ali, Muhammad and Hana Yasmeen
With the help of his daughter, Ali has written a new book, an
autobiography reflecting on his life with a spiritual and philosophical
perspective. “Soul of a Butterfly” was published in November 2004.
Anderson, Lynne
On December 2, 2004 in Denton, TX, police found Anderson passed out
in her car which she had parked on the side of a highway. She was
charged with drunk driving and released on a $1,000 bail.
Barrie, Sir James M.
The time zone for his birth data has been corrected from LMT to GMT,
changing his Ascendant by a few degrees. Thanks to Shellie Enteen for
the alert!
Bernhard, Prince (1911)
Eight months after his wife died, Prince Bernhard died on
December 1, 2004 at age 93 in Utrecht. In November 2003, he was
diagnosed with cancer which had spread to his lungs and stomach.
Collins, Phil
The British musician and his wife Orianne welcomed their son Mathew
[sic] on December 1, 2004 in Geneva.
Dern, Laura
On November 28, 2004 the actress gave birth to a daughter at her home
in Los Angeles. The child’s father is Dern’s fiancé, musician Ben
Harper, with whom she has a 3-year-old son Ellery.
Frankel, Martin
On March 9, 2001, this fugitive businessman was extradited to the
United States from Germany where he had spent a year and a half in a
German jail on charges of using a false passport and smuggling diamonds.
On March 12, 2001, Frankel pleaded not guilty in U.S. federal court to
fraud and racketeering charges. Facing 24 counts of stealing more than
$200 million from 10 small insurance companies, he eventually pleaded
guilty. On December 10, 2004 he was sentenced in New Haven, CT to 16
years and eight months for his crimes. Just prior to his sentencing, the
US Treasury held a two-day auction of some 822 diamonds seized from
Frankel’s cache. The auction raised $9 million to be used as victim
restitution. (Thanks to Jane Drury for forwarding news of his sentence.)
Hasselhoff, David
Christof Neiderwieser wrote to alert us to a significant
discrepancy between the birth data in Hasselhoff’s AstroDatabank
record and other information, also reportedly from Hasselhoff
himself. It seems that a fan club and other web sources give July
17, 1952. The fan club sponsors sent an e-mail to Christof
confirming that they heard Hasselhoff in a radio interview give the
date of July 17, 1952 and a time of 3 PM, but they could not be more
specific about the name of the show or when it was broadcast. Given
the difference in dates and times, with both versions quoting
Hasselhoff, we have downgraded his entry’s rating to XX.
Hawthorne, Nigel
We have changed his birth month to April to correct a typo in his
birth month (the record incorrectly gave May as his birth month; all
other information is correct). Thanks to Jim Gorham for the alert.
Kerik, Bernard B.
New Data
Name: KERIK, BERNARD B.
Date: 9/4/1955
Time: 04:00 EDT (+5:00)
Gender: M
Place: Newark, NJ
Latitude: 40 N 44
Longitude: 74 W 10
Rodden Rating: B
Data Source: Bio/autobiography
Source Notes:
Sy Scholfield cites Kerik's book, "The Lost Son: A Life in Pursuit of
Justice" (NY: Harper Collins, 2001), p. 19. Biography: American law
enforcement officer, the 40th police commissioner of the City of New
York who was sent to Iraq to bring law and order as Iraq's Minister of
the Interior after the fall of Saddam Hussein. In this role he is
responsible for hiring and training the police force for post-Hussein
Iraq.
Biography:
Abandoned by his mother when he was 4, he went on to earn his black belt
in Tae Kwan Do and joined the US Army as a military police office. He
was assigned to Korea and trained special forces at the J.F. Kennedy
Unconventional Warfare Center in Fort Bragg. After the service, with a
background in international security and anti-terrorism, he became
warden of the Passaic County jail in New Jersey. He took a pay cut to
become a police officer in 1986, stationed in Times Square. From there
he became a fearless narcotics detective, going undercover to track Cali
cartel drug lords. After a 1991 drug bust, he was awarded the Police
Department's Medal of Valor for saving the life of a fellow officer. On
August 21, 2000 he was appointed by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani as the 40th
police commissioner of New York City, a post he held during the infamous
9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
His journey to find his mother resulted in his 2001 book, "The Lost
Son," optioned by Miramax to be made into a movie. On December 2, 2004,
President George W. Bush tapped Kerik for the cabinet position of
Secretary of Homeland Security. Kerik had been working as senior vice
president for the security consulting firm founded by Rudy Giuliani. On
Friday, December 10, 2004, Kerik abruptly withdrew his name from
nomination citing personal matters. He claimed that while he was
preparing confirmation paperwork, he discovered that a former employee
had "questionable immigration status" and that the related tax payments
had not been made. The following week, another potential problem
surfaced in the guise of a potential conflict-of-interest: Kerik
received a $6.2 million windfall from exercising stock options in a
stun-gun company for which he serves on the board of directors. The
company does business with the Department of Homeland Security.
Long, Shelley
The actress was hospitalized on November 17, 2004 for what some media
reports labeled a drug overdose. Her publicist denied that drugs are an
issue and denied that she had made suicide attempt, stating that a
long-time back injury had become so painful that she took one extra pill
and had a bad reaction. Long and her husband ended their 22-year
marriage in July 2004 and sold their home, and she has openly lamented
her inability to get work, although she has recently filmed guest
appearances on two sitcoms.
Peterson, Scott
On December 13, 2004, the jury recommended the death penalty for
his crimes. The judge is expected to pass down the formal sentence
on February 25, 2005.
Piscopo, Joe
The 53-year-old actor became a dad for the fourth time on November
29, 2004 with the birth of a daughter Olivia in Los Angeles. He and
his wife Kimberly have a daughter Alexandra and a son Michael, and
Piscopo has a 25-year-old son Joe from a previous marriage.
Travers, Mary
On December 7, 2004, the singer’s publicist announced that Travers
is suffering from a form of leukemia and is undergoing chemotherapy.
She expects to be in remission in three months and to tour with her
group Peter, Paul and Mary in February 2005.
