Affleck, Ben
The actor wed Jennifer Garner in a private ceremony on Parrot Cay in
the Caribbean on June 29, 2005. This ceremony, his first marriage and
her second, was attended by very few people; their parents and many
close friends were absent.
Albert, Prince of Monaco
In May 2005, a French publication broke the story that the unmarried
prince of Monaco had a son. On July 6, 2005, the Prince confirmed that
he had fathered a child with former Air France attendant Nicole Coste.
The child, Alexandre, was born in August 2003. Albert, whose father died
just a few weeks before the story broke, formally ascends to the throne
on July 12, 2005. Under present law, Alexandre cannot inherit the throne
of the principality.
Ball, Lucille
The comedienne was born in NY not NJ. The coordinates in her
entry were correct in AstroDatabank, however, so any chart generated
from AstroDatabank with your charting software would have been correct.
Brown, Jerry
The politician and his fiancée, Anne Gust, married on June 18, 2005
in Oakland, CA.
Carter, Nick
In July 2005, after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of
drinking and driving, the singer was sentenced to serving three
years' probation, paying a fine, and attending an alcohol education
program.
Fry, Christopher
The venerable playwright died at age 97 on June 30, 2005 in
Chichester, England.
Graham, Billy
On June 26, 2005, despite intense heat, his advanced age and his ill
health, Graham delivered a rousing 23-minute sermon at what he considers
his last revival meeting in the United States. The three-day rally was
held from June 24-26 in Queens, NY.
Haver, June
The 79-year-old actress died of respiratory failure on July 4, 2005
at her home in Los Angeles.
Jolie, Angelina
The actress and United Nations activist adopted a second child on
July 6, 2005, a five-month-old orphan from Ethiopia. The girl is named
Zahara Marley Jolie.
Lewis, Jerry Lee
On June 15, 2005, his divorce from his sixth wife was finalized in
Hernando, MS.
Mondale, Eleanor
Mondale confirmed on June 20, 2005 that she had been diagnosed with
brain cancer. Earlier in the year, she had noticed that her vision got a
bit blurry at times but didn't seek medical care. While on a camping
trip on May 16, 2005, at about 4 AM, she had a seizure, with another one
occurring 10 minutes later. Doctors found two tumors on her frontal
lobe, and on May 31 she received the news that the tumors had proven
cancerous. She expects to beat the disease with chemo and radiation to
shrink the tumors; so far there is no evidence that the cancer has
metastasized. The only daughter of politician Walter Mondale married
musician Chan Poling, her third husband, less than a week before she
made public her battle with the dreaded disease.
Picasso, Pablo
On June 27, 2005, another of his lovers auctioned off some of his
seldom-seen paintings, some of them nudes of her that he called his
"letters of love." All together, the works of art were valued at $2.4
million. Genevieve Laporte, now 79, says that she met the famous artist
in 1944 when she was 18 years old and interviewed him for her school
newspaper. Their relationship developed but, according to her, he waited
until he was 24 before he seduced her, and he was not the egotist he is
often described as being. She said, "I want to pass on the message that
he was a loving man."
Schimmel, Annemarie
Larry Ely points out correctly that her day of birth is the 7th, not
the 17th. We've also updated her biography to include notation of her
death.
Thera, H. D.
Thanks to an inquiry from an astute reader, I have made a correction
in this entry's time zone. Previously the time zone entered was LMT with
a GMT differential of -4 hours and 51 minutes but the correct GMT
differential according to the ACS atlas should be - 5 hours and 21
minutes.
